For that whereas the fourteenth day of August (?? in Roman numerals) at the County aforesaid a certain discourse was had & moved by & between the sd Plaintiffs together with James Patton & Alexander Brackenridge now deceased and the sd Defendant, of and concerning the Reverend Mr. John Craig's becoming their stated & fixed minister, and upon that discourse the aforesd defendd in consideration that The Reverend Mr. John Craige would come from the Province of Pensylvania to Augusta County in the Colony of Virginia and there live as a ?? & settled Minister amongst the Inhabitents of the lower part of Shand(?) in the County aforesd & do perform all the ministerial offices of adjoenting(?) Clergyman he the said Defendant the day & year aforesd at the County aforesaid ajoined upon himself & at the sd Plaintiff then & there faithfully promised that he the sd Defendant would ??? & truly pay yearly and every year towards the sd Plaintiff for the sd Mr. Craige's use fifteen shillings Curr. money towards his support & maintainance, and the sd Plantiffs in fact say that in pursuance of the agreement aforesd the sd Mr. John Craige did come immediately from ye province of Pensylvania and settle & live & still does continue ??? minister in the County of Augusta aforesd doing & performing all the necessary duties becoming a good & Christian like Minister & preacher of the word of God Nevertheless the sd Defendt his promise & ?? aforesd and made not regarding but continuing & fraudulently intending the sd Plantiff in this behalf ?? & subtitng(?) to deceive & defraud the aforesaid yearly payment a sum of fifteen shillings hath not paid (altho' often required) but ?? same to pay for these sixteen year's last past before the commencement of this suit & of Issuing out the Original Writ in this cause, hath refused to pay & still doth refuse to the damage of the Plantiff Twenty pounds & thereof they bring suit. This Indenture Witnesseth that Robert Craig for and in Behalf of the Overseers of the Poor of the 2d District of the County and Parish of Augusta Namly Thoms Frame, David McNair and Myself agreeable to an Order of Court of said County have put an aprentise Named Margaret Mooney by her former Indentures when bounded to Jacob Berrier Deceasd four years old Septemr, Last Court(?), to John Finley of said County to learn the business of spinning knittin sewing and other houswork as is Customary in the Country and after the Manner of an Apprentice to serve the said John Finley untill she fully arrives at the age of Eighteen Years During all which unto him the said Apprentice her said Master shall faithfully serve his secrets Keep and his Lawfull Commands at all times readily Obey she shall do no Damage to her said Master nor see it Done by others without giving Notice thereof to her said Master she shall not Waste her said Masters goods nor lend them unlawfully to any at cards dice or any unlawfull game she shall not play Whereby her said Master May Have Damage Her own goods or the Goods of others She shall not buy or sell without the Leave of her said Master she shall not absent herself from her said Masters service without his leave But in all things Behave Herself as a faithfull Apprentice ought to do during the said term, and the said Master shall use the utmost of His Best Endeavours To Teach or Cause To Be Taught or Instructed the said Apprentice in the Business of Spinning Knitting sewing & Housework as is Customary in the Country Also to Read & Write Distinctly and Intelligebly and To Provide for Her Sufficient Meat Drink Lodging Washing and Apparel fitting for an Apprentice During said Term and at the End of said Term shall give unto said Apprentice Double Apparrel and pay unto Her The Usual Allowance of freedom Dues According to law and for the true Performance of all the afforsaid Agreements the Parties Bind themselves to Each Other firmly By these Presents in Witness whereof we Have hereunto Interchangably Set our Hands & seals This 2d Day of June in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven Hundred & Ninety five Sealed & Delivered in the Presence of John Finley John Finley junr Robt. Know all men by these Presents that we Jane Hook, Thos MColloc [MCCulloch], John Davidson, John Findley are held and firmly bound unto Felix Gilbert, Alexr McClenachan, Alex Robertson, Geo Moffett Justices in the Commission of the Peace for Augusta County for and in Behalf and to the sole use and Behoof of the Justices of the said County & their Successors in the sum of five hundred pounds To be paid to the said Justices and their Successors to the which payment will and truly to be made we bind ourselves and Every of us our and Every of our heirs Executors and Administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents Seald with our seals Dated this 7(?) Day of November 1772. The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above bound Jane Hook Thos MColloch Administrator of all the Goods Chattles & Credits of Robert Hook junr Deceased do make or cause to be made a true & perfect Inventory of all & Singular the Goods Chattles & Credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of them the said Jane & Thomas or into the hands of any other person or persons for them and the same so made do Exhibit or cause to be Exhibited into the County Court of Augusta at such time as they shall be thereunto required by the said Court and the same Goods Chattles and Credits & all other the Goods Chattles and Credits of the said Deceased at the time of his Death which at any time after shall come to the hands or possession of the said Jane and Robert [Thomas] or into the hands of any other Person or persons for them do will and truly Administer according to law and further do make a just and true account of their actings & doings when thereto required by the said Court and all the rest and residue of the said Goods Chattles and Credits which shall be found remaining upon the said Admrs account the same being first Examined and Allowed by the Justices of the Court for the time being Shall deliver and pay unto such person or persons respectively as the said Justices by their order or Judgment shall direct pursuant to the laws in that case made and provided and if it shall hereafter appear that any last will & Testament was made by the said deceased & the Executor or Executors therein named do Exhibit the same into the said Court making request to have it allowed and approved accordingly if the said Jane & Thos being thereunto required do tender & deliver up their Letters of Administration approbation of such Testament being firsthand and made in the said Court then this obligation to be void and of none Effect or else to remain in full force and Virtue.
