This Indenture Made this 28th day of October in the year of our Lord one 
thousand seven hundred & ninety nine Between Jane Alexander of Albermale [sic] 
county of the one part & Gab'l. Alexander, Jane Alexander She Married to John 
Alexander, William Alexander of Abermale [sic] County, Dorcas Alexander Now 
Married to Austain Smith of Albermarle [sic] County & Francis Alexander of 
Augusta County Witnesseth that the Said Jane Alexander Widow & Receit [should 
be Relict] of John Alexander Dec'd of Augusta County for & in consideration of 
the sum of Forty pounds to her in hand paid the Rec't whereof She Doth hereby 
acknowledge hath Bargained & sold unto Said Gab'l, William, Jane, Dorcas & 
Francis Alexander all her right of Dowery in a Tract of land conveyed to her 
Dec'd husband John Alexander by Deed indented from Wm. Gillaspy & Wm. 
Henderson of the County of Green & State of North Carolina Bearing Date the 
17th day of june 1794 & containing one hundred acres lying in the Said County 
of Augusta adjoining the land of Francis Alexander, John Hambleton &c & 
Bounded as follows to wit Beginning at a white oak on a Ridge corner to the 
original Tract thence North 11 W't Christians Creek & Down the Same Ninety 
eight poles to a Sycamore at the mouth of a ditch S 80 W 40 poles to a Black 
oak sap*** N 30 W 80 poles to a white oak & pine on the old line & with the 
same S 38 W 95 poles to three white oaks **** Russells line S 68 E 72 poles & 
South 3 E 86 poles & crossing said Creek to 2 Sycamores on the Bank S 67 E 18 
poles to 2 Pines & N 23 E 64 poles to the Beginning & the said Jean Widow & 
Robert [should be Relict] as aforesaid Doth bind herself &c to forever 
relinquish Release & quit claim to her said Right of Dowery in said land to 
the said Gab'l, William, Jean, Dorcas & Francis Alexander them their heirs or 
assigns & in witness whereof the said Jane Alexander Widow & Relict of Said 
John Alexander Dec'd Hath hereunto Set her hand & Seal the Day & Year above 
written.

At a Court held for Augusta County Oct'r the 28th 1799 This Indenture of 
Bargain and sale between Jean Alexander of the one part & Gabriel, William, 
Jane, Dorcas & Francis Alexander of the other part was proved by the Oaths of 
Jacob Kinney, Alexander S. Lyle and John Coulter, three of the Witnesses 
thereto and Ordered to be recorded.
