Whereas Gabriel Alexander Sen'r., Gabriel Alexander Jun'r., John Alexander & Jennett his wife and William Alexander & Elizabeth his wife by their certain Indenture of bargain and Sale bearing date the 26th day of September 1812, have sold and conveyed unto John C. Baskins one hundred acres of land with the appurtenances lying and being in the County of Augusta. And whereas the said Elizabeth Alexander cannot conveniently travel to our county court of Augusta to make acknowledgement of the said conveyance, therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgement which she shall be willing to make before you of the conveyance contained in the said Indenture which is hereunto annexed and we do therefore commend you that you do personally go to the said Elizabeth and receive her acknowledgement of the same and examine her privily and apart from the said William Alexander her husband whether she doth the same freely and voluntarily, without his persuasion or threats, and whether she be willing that the same shall be recorded in our said county court. And when you have received her acknowledgement and examined her as aforesaid, that you distinctly and openly certify us thereof in our said court under your hands and seals sending then these the said Indenture and this writ. Witness Erasmus Stribling, Clerk of our said Court at the courthouse the 26th day of October 1812 and in the 37th year of the Commonwealth. Erasmus Stribling State of Kentucky Garrett County, to wit. By virtue of the above commission to us directed, we the subscribers being Justices of the Peace for the said County, do hereby certify that we did personally go to the above named Elizabeth Alexander and examined her privily and apart from the above named William Alexander her husband and we do further certify that she freely and voluntarilly acknowledged the Indenture hereunto annexed, and that she did it without persuasions or threats of her said husband and that she was willing the same should be recorded in the county court of Augusta. Given under our hands and seals the 15th day of February 1813 and in the 22nd year of the Commonwealth. Augustine Jennings (Seal) Achilles Bollinger (Seal) State of Kentucky Garrard County Sct. I Benjamin Letcher clerk of the county aforesaid do hereby certify that Augustine Jennings and Achilles Bollinger who signed the within certificate is & was Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid at the time of signing the said certificate and that due faith and credit ought to be given to all his acts as such. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of my office to be affixed the 20th day of February 1813 and 21st year of the Commonwealth. Baskins was presented in Court & together with the certificate of its due execution and certificate of the clerk of Garrard County state of Kentucky herein endorsed and ordered to be recorded.
