All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Augusta County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds James LONG & wife Elizabeth to Dr. Alexander LONG, indenture dated 16 Jun 1788, presented 16 Jun 1789, proved 15 Dec 1789 Alexander LONG to James Alexander LONG, bonds dated 21 Apr 1788, assigned to Samuel LONG, 10 May 1799 This Indenture made the 16th Day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight between James Long and Elizabeth his wife of the County of Augusta and State of Virginia of the one part and Doctor Alexander Long of the County & State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that for & in Consideration of the sum of four hundred pounds Current money of Virginia to the said James Long & Elizabeth his wife in hand paid Doth bargain and sell unto the said Doctor Alex’r Long his heirs or assigns one Certain tract of land Containing one hundred and sixty ___ and a half acres of land being part of a tract of land William Long deceased lived on, and was willed to James Long by his Father William Long deceased as will appear by his Last will and testament now on record in the Clerks office of Augusta will more at Large appear relation thereunto being had Lying and being in the County of Augusta In Beverly Manner and on both sides of the South river a branch of Shanandor bounded as follows. Viz. Beginning at a black oak white oak and pine Corner to James Bell and with the old line North fifty West one hundred poles to some marked saplings Corner to the division line and with the same North eleven degrees West three hundred sixty eight poles Crossing the river to the old Line to some marked saplings & with the old line north Seventy nine East twenty poles to a Hiccory Corner to James Bell and with his Line South ten East four hundred forty Six poles crossing the river to the Beginning, together with all its appurtenances to have & to hold the said one hundred sixty four & a half acres of land with all its appurtenances to the said Doctor Alex’r Long & his heirs to the sole use & behoof of him the said Alex’r Long & his heirs or assigns forever and the said James Long and Elizabeth his wife for themselves & their heirs Doth Covenant with the said Alexander Long and his heirs that they the Said James Long & Elizabeth his wife and their heirs the Said Land with all its appurtenances unto the said Alex’r Long & his heirs against all persons wheresoever will forever warrant and & defend. In Witness whereof the Said James Long and Elizabeth his wife have hereunto Set their hands & Seals the Day and Year first above written. Signed sealed & acknowledged James Long {SC} In presents of us Elizabeth Long {SC} John Bell William Brieze Francis Long NB These words interlined before Signed (his heirs or assigns------ At a Court held for Augusta County June 16th 1789. This Indenture of bargain & sale between James Long and Elizabeth his wife of the one part & Dr. Alexander Long of the other part was proved by the oath of Francis Long & William Brieze two of the Witnesses thereto. And at a Court hold for said County December 15th 1789 this Deed was further proved by the Oath of John Bell another of the witnesses thereto and is ordered to be recorded. Teste. J. Lyle, jr D.C. Bond I promise to pay to James Long or his asignes the sum of Seventy five pounds Lawful money of Virginia upon the 1st Day of October 1799 it being for value received of him to which payment will ... my self my heirs Executors Administrators and Asignes in the penalty sum of fifty pounds of Like Lawfull money above written given under my hand and Seal this 21st Day of April 1788. Test Andrew Black Alex’r Long his {Seal} John Bell I promise to unto James Long or his Asignes the sum of twenty five pounds Lawful money of Virginia upon the first Day October 1800 it being for value Received of him to which payment will and truly to be made. I do Bind myself, my heirs, Executors, Administrators and Asignes in the penalty sum of fifty pounds of Like Lawfull money aforesaid given under my hand and seal this 21 Day of April 1788.
