All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Augusta County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds William & Samuel LONG to James BLACK, Deed of Bargain & Sale- 292½ acres dated 21 Aug 1823, proved Sep 1823 This Indenture made the Twenty first day of August in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and Twenty three, Between William & Samuel Long of the county of Augusta State of Virginia of the one part and James Black of the County & state aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said William & Samuel Long for and in consideration of the sum of four thousand eight hundred and Twenty One Dollars lawful money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said Samuel & James Black the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said James Black his heirs and assigns one certain tract or parcel of land situate in the County aforesaid on both sides of the south River, containing Two hundred p.202 & ninety two and one half acres, and Bounded as follows, Viz. Beginning at two pines corner to Beverly Manor, thence South 84 ½ West 86 poles to a white oak corner to Morris Austin’s land, North 12 ½ West Three hundred and forty two poles to four Chestnuts on the north side of a hill, North 74 ¼ East one hundred forty three poles to a stake between two black oaks South 8 ¾ East Three hundred ninety six poles to four pines on the east side of a road on Beverly’s line North 55 West forty eight poles to the beginning together with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging; or in any wise appertaining. To have and to hold, the said James Black with all its appurtenances unto the said James Black his heirs and assigns forever, to the only proper use and behoof of him the said James Black his heirs and assigns forever. And the said William & Samuel Long doth for themselves their heirs, executors and administrators doth covenant with the said James Black his heirs and assigns that they the said William & Samuel Long their heirs executors and administrators, the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said James Black his heirs and assigns, against the claim or claims of them the said William & Samuel Long their heirs, and all and every person or persons whatsoever, shall and Will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In Witness whereof, the said William & Samuel Long hath hereunto set their hands and seals on the day and year first above written. Signed, Sealed and delivered Wm. Long {Seal} in the presence of Samuel Long {Seal} Augusta County Court Clerk’s Office August the 26th 1823 This deed of Bargain & Sale from William Long and Samuel Long to James Black was presented in the office aforesaid and being acknowledged before me Vincent Tapp Deputy Clerk of the said Court, by the said Wm. & Samuel Long, is admitted to record Teste Vincent Tapp DCC Co Augusta County Court September Term 1823 The acknowledgment of the deed was duly certified and reported to the Court, is ordered to be entered on the minutes.
