Frotter Oct. 20th, 1849 John b. Floyd, Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia: To all to whom these presents shall come Greeting : Know Ye, That in conformity with a survey made on the twenty third day of June, One Thousand Eight hundred and Forty eight, by virtue of Land Office Treasury Warrants no. 17,139 there is hereby Granted by said Commonwealth unto Amos Tharp, a certain parcel or tract of land, containing two Hundred and sixty acres, lying and being in the County of Augusta; on Eastern side of Shenandoah Mountain & bounded as follows, Viz Beginning at a white oak on top of the mountain on the line dividing Augusta & Highland Counties. Thence N70 degrees E100 poles to two chestnut oaks on a ridge N84 1/2 degrees E164 poles to a chestnut oak near the Staunton and Parkersburg road; Thence S3 1/2 degrees W33 poles crossing a bend in the road & the branch to a white oak on the side of a ridge thence S42 1/2 degrees W 321 poles to tow lynns on the east side of The Branch S72 degrees W36 poles, crossing two branches to a chestnut and sugar tree on the West side of a branch N56 1/2 degrees W43 poles to a chestnut near the top of the mountainon the line dividing the Counties of Augusta and Highland; thence with said line and along the top of the mountain N12 1/2 degrees E140 poles to two chestnut oaks N40 degrees E12 poles to a chestnut N9 1/2 degrees W44 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances. To have to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances, to the said Amos tharp and his heirs forever.In witness whereof; the said John B. Floyd, Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the Lesser Seal of the Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond, on the first day of October in the year of Our Lord One Thousand EightHundred and forty nine and of the commonwealth the Seventy fourth.
