John Vance - 1753 - Land Grant - Augusta County, Virginia Patents No. 31, 1751-56 page 366 Vance } George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and - 197 ded.} Ireland Kind Defender of the Faith ve To all to whom these Presents Shall come Greeting Know ye that for divers Good Causes and - Considerations but more especially for and in Consideration of the Sum of Twenty Shillings (cut off) pg. 367 of Virginia We Have Given Granted and Confirmed and by these Presents for us our Heirs and Successors do live Give Grant and Confirm unto John Vance one certain Tract or Parcel of Land containing one hundred and NinetySeven acres lying and being in the County of Augusta on a branch of Reed Creeck a branch of New River between Patrick Cohoon and James McCalls Survey and bounds as followeth (to wit) Beginning at a black oak corner to Cohoon Land and running thence South seventy five degrees west eighty Poles to a Hickory and a white oak thence South eightyeight poles to a black oak and a white oak in a Valley thence North Seven five degrees East three Hundred Poles to a Black oak thence South Sixty six Poles to two white oaks thence North twenty five degrees East seventy Poles to a white oak and a locust on McCalls line thence North thirty degrees East twenty six poles to three white oak saplins Thence North twenty Degrees West one hundred Poles to a black oak and a red oak thence North seventy five degrees West twenty Poles to a Corner Cohoons Land thence with his line South seventy six degrees west two hundred and Forty Poles to the Beginning With all Woods Underwoods Swamps Marshes Lowgrounds Meadows - Feedings and his due Share of all ____ Mines and Quarries as well discovered or not discovered within the bounds aforesaid and being part of the said Quantity of one hundred and Ninety Seven acres of Land and the rivers water and water Courses therein contained together with the Privileges of Hunting Hawking Fishing Fowling and all other Profits? commondities and Hereditaments whatsoever to the same or any Part Thereof belonging or in anywise appertaining To Have hold Possess and Enjoy the said Tract or Parcel of Land and other the before Grants Premises and every Part thereof with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said John Vance and his Heirs and assigns forever to the only use and behoof him the said John Vance and to his Heirs and Assigns forever To be held of us our Heirs and Successors as of our manor of East Greenwich in the County of Kent in f_e and Common _occage and not in Capite or by Knights Service Yielding and Paying unto us our Heirs and successors for every Fifty Acres of Land and so proportionably for a lesser or Greater Quantity than fifty Acres the fee rent of one Shilling yearly to be paid upon the __art of Saint Michael the Arch Angel and also Cultivating and Improving three acres part of eve fifty of the tract above mentioned withing three years after the date of these Presents Provided always that if three years of the said Fee rent shall at any time be in Arrear & unpaid or if the said John Vance his Heirs or Assigns donot within op_ ce of of three years next - Coming after the Date of these Presents Cultivate and Improve __ree acres part of every fifty of the Tract above mentioned then the Estate hereby Granted shall leave and be utterly - determined and there after it shall and may be lawful to and for us our Heirs and Successors (Cut off) page 368 whereof we gave Caused these our Letters Patent to be made - Witness our Trusty and welbeloved Robert Dinwiddie Esq.r our Lieutenant Govenor and Commander in Chief of our said Colony and Dominion of Williamsburgh under the Seal of our said Colony the Twenty Second Day of August One Thousand Seven Hundred and fifty three in the - Twenty Seventh year of our Reign Rob.t Dinwiddie ************************************************************************ USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
