He was born in Augusta County, Virginia, in 1752. He was in the battle of Point Pleasant in 1775 and served at various times as a scout and spy on the frontier of Virginia during the Revolution. He was allowed pension but in March 1835 he was dropped from the roll as upon re-examination of his claim his service was not considered military service in an embodied corps in the Revolution as was required by the pension law.
