Contributor: Maggie Phillips ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Augusta County Virginia: 14 June 1804 Marriage Bond for Samuel EARLY and Rebecca CAMPBELL Document 1: Know all men by these presents that we Samuel Early and John Campbell are held and firmly bound unto John Page Esquire governor of Virginia and his successors for the use of the Commonwealth in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to which payment will and truly be made we bind ourselves our heirs executors and administrators jointly and severally firmly by this presents sealed and dated this 10th day of July 1804. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas a marriage is shortly intended to be soleminized between the above bound Samuel Early Bachelor and Rebecca Campbell Spinister daughter of Alexander Campbell decd late of Augusta county if therefore there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue signed sealed and delivered in the presents of Samuel Early (SEAL) his John X Campbell mark -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Document 2: Augusta County to wit: I John Campbell of the said County do swear that my sister Rebecca Campbell, daughter of Alexander Campbell decd who is about to intermarry with Samuel Early is past the age of twenty one years and that she normally resides in this said County of Augusta.
