First. I commit my soul to God who gave it and my body to the dust to be decently intered in the customery manner. Second. I will and bequeath to my wife Mary Rowan one third of my plantation on which I live and my negro man Bartly during her life for her support also my dwelling house with all the household and kitchen furniture which furniture I allow her to dispose of at her discretion as she please Third I will and bequeath to my son James and his heirs forever the plantation on which I leive with all its appurtenances with the exception of his mothers third while she lives with all the farming utentiels and a young mare called Nice and also my negro man Bartly after the decease of my wife allowing him to support his sisters in the house in which they now live while they remain single. Fourth. I will and bequeath to my daughters the Plantation I Bought of Thomas Steele lying in Rockbridge County to be rented or sold by my executor and the benefits arising to be equely devided among them and at any time they may require my executors are to sell sd plantation and equally devide the proceeds as above directed among or their heirs and likewise I allow them whatever Beding and other articles they may make on the place where they now live while single and likewise to keep some stock. Fifth It is my will that my son James and William Stuart should fulfill their Indenture Sixth I allow my son James to pay all the Just debts that are against the estate together with my funeral expences and the moveable property that is not disposed of (except the grain and the hogs). I will to my daughters equily only that it is to remain on the place for the common use of the Famely (except they should (or any one of them) stand in need of some articles at present I allow my executors to sell so much of said property as will furnish them and it shall be counted of their share and at any time they or any of them should wish to go to live at any other place they shall then be entitled to draw their share of sd property in full Lastly I ordain and appoint my wife Mary Rowen and my son James my onely and sole Executors of this my last will and testament disannulling and revoking all others by me made and establishing this as my last In witness whereof I hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this 25th day of April 1824. We the heirs and representatives of James Rowan decd. being fully satisfied with the above as the last will and testament of James Rowan decd. Are each of us willing to admit it to record in our County Court of Augusta and that it shall be acted on as tho it had been signed by James Rowan and witnessed as the law requires and in testimony of our agreement we have each of us hereto set our hands and affixed our seals this 23 day of October in the year of our Lord 1826.
