Will: Hugh Campbell, Dated 19 March 1771 Proved 22 Mar 1775 Source: Augusta Co., VA Will Book 5, Page 342, 343 Contributor: Carol Vass ---------------------------------------------------------------- In the name of God amen I Hugh Campbell of Augusta County and Collony of Virginia being weak in Body but of sound mind and Memory Blessed be God do this 19th of March in the Year of our lord God one thousand seven hundred and seventy one make & Publish this my last will and Testament in Manner following that is to say first of all I do give and Recommend my soul to God who gave it and my Body to be buried in a decent Manner and Secondly I do order that all my lawful debts shall be honestly Paid and thirdly I do leave and bequeath unto my loving Wife Esther Campbell the full Privilege and use of the third of my Dwell house and likewise one third of my Personall Estate and likewise one third of my Real Estate during her life and the other two Parts of my Moveables to be Equally divided amongst my my three sons & two daughters Viz, William, Hugh & Charles & Esther & Martha and also I do allow my lands to be equally divided by lot Quantity and Quality Considered amongst my three sons whose names are above Written and also I give and Bequeath to my son Robert Sixteen pounds of Virginia Currency to be Paid to him off my Estate at the Expiration of two years from this date and I make and Ordain John MaGill and my son William Campbell whole & sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament in Trust for the Intents and Purposes this my will Contained In Witness whereof I the above said Hugh Campbell have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and Seal the day and year above Written Signed Sealed & Delivered in the Presence of us Andrew Scott Hugh Campbell Robert Fowler John Davis 17 Jan. 1775 Augusta County Will Book 5, page 344 At a Court held for Augusta County This last Will and Testament of Hugh Campbell decd. was Proved by the Oath of John Davis one of the Witnesses thereto and Robert Fowler another of the Witnesses thereunto being very sick. It is ordered that a dedimus You to take his deposition and on the attition (?) of William Campbell one of the Executors therein named who made oath Recording to law Certificate is granted him for obtaining approval thereof in due form he haveing with Securitys entered into and Acknowledged there Bond according to law. 18 January 1775 Augusta County Will Book 5, page 343 George the third by the grace of God of Great Britain and France and Ireland king defender of the faith.
