Wood Cemetery Location: 3 miles south of Healing Springs, Virginia on Route #220 Bath County OWNERS: (1937) Mustoe Heirs DESCRIPTION: This is a private cemetery and is in bad condition. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Anthony Mustoe, on whose place this cemetery was established, was born in Tongue Yard, near White Chapple Church, London, in the county of Middlesex. He came to America in the year 1772; he was married to a Mary Wright, by whom he had two daughters, Nancy and Sarah, who all died in Staunton, Virginia, in 1778. He then married in March 13th, 1780, to a Dorothy Silor, whose father’s name was Jacob, and her mother’s name was Dorothy, both from Elsaw in Germany. This wife was born in Maryland, in the County of Frederick, February 6th, 1760, and died in Falling Spring Valley, Virginia, July 25th, 1831. Anthony Mustoe died in Falling Spring Valley, Virginia June 18, 1807. Mr. Mustoe was a sergeant in the Revolutionary War, in the 12th Regiment, commanded by Colonel James Wood, also the 5th Virginia Regiment. Colonel William Russell during 1777-1778. He was postmaster at Warm Springs from January 1, 1796 to October 1, 1802, and was formerly Sheriff of Augusta County, which at that time embraced a large part of the present County of Bath. Anthony Mustoe and his last wife were buried in this cemetery, and a number of other relatives, but no tombstones were ever erected until the latter part of 1800. Anthony Mustoe was one of the original pioneers of Augusta and Bath Counties, and an extensive land owner.
