Wood Cemetery Location: 3.3 miles east of McClung, Virginia on Routes #501 and #629 Bath County OWNERS: (1936) W.S. Larne estate DESCRIPTION: Is known as Shaw’s private cemetery. Some Thomases are also buried there. Is very much grown up and in poor condition. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Capt. Shaw served in the War of 1812. He owned quite a large plantation. He requested to be buried on this place at his death. His request was when he died he wanted to be hauled to the cemetery in a covered four horse wagon, which was granted. There are some Thomases buried in this cemetery, who were very prominent people of this community. There are not tombstones in this cemetery. Just some rock markers.
