Wood Cemetery Location: East of Homestead Dairy going south on Route #200 in Warm Springs village. Bath County OWNERS: Public cemetery/ DESCRIPTION: This is the largest public cemetery in Bath County. It is enclosed and kept in good condition. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Charles Howard Cameron, born precisely twenty years later than Washington, was a soldier at Point Pleasant, where his only brother was killed. General Lafayette, who esteemed him as a personal friend, presented him with a gold- headed cane in 1781. He became a colonel. About 1790, he settled at Fassifern, which he named after his ancestral home in the Scottish highlands. On Fassifern farm stands the first Clerk’s office of Bath County, used by Charles Cameron in 1791. Inscriptions on tombstones: Col. Charles E. In the year of our Lord 1817 Age 46 Spencer Roane For nearly thirty years Judge of the Court of Appeals of Va. Honorable and just, pure and patriotic: He had the confidence of his countrymen. He thought and spoke and acted independently and commanded universal respect. His Judicial decisions are a monument to his official worth. He died Sept. 4, 1822 Arch P.
