This Indenture made this forth (sic-t) day of September in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred Between John Dever and Hannah his wife of the county of ( ) Western Territory of the one part Witnesseth that the said John and Hannah Dever for and in consideration of the sum of Seventy pounds curent (sic-t) money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said Solomon Townsend at or before the selling and delivering of these presents the receipt which of is hereby acknowledged them the said John and Hannah Dover (sic-t) hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Solomon Townsend to his heirs & assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land containing twenty-two acres twenty poles lying and being in the county of Bath on Back Creek a branch of James River ( ) as presenth(?) unit(?) Beginning at a birch tree & iron wood ( )s Warricks branch ( ) South side thereof & running thence South twenty West sixty poles to three white oaks on a bank in the old line North __ West fifty six poles with the old line to three white oaks thereto(?) corner(?) north ten degrees East fifty poles on the old or patent line to a Spanish oak & two ___ trees by Warrick branch thence down the same South seventy degrees East Sixty five poles to the Beginning, Together with the appertances [sic-t] therewith belonging to have & to hold the same hereby conveyed and all(?) & ( ) this presents hereby ( ) with the appurtances unto the said Sollomon (sic-t) Townsend his heirs & assigns forever his only proper use & ( ) of him the said Sollomon (sic-t) Townsend & his heirs & assigns forever & the said John & Hannah Dever for themselves theirs heirs executors & administrators doth covenant & agree with the said Sollomon (sic-t) Townsend his heirs & assigns by these presents that this said tract of land with the appurtances unto the said Sollomon (sic-t) his heirs and assigns from the claims or demand of them the said John & Hannah Dever or any other person or persons whatsoever shall warrant and forever defend by these presented In Witness whereof the said John and Hannah Dover hath hereunto Set their hands and Seals the day and year above written his John ID Dever (Seal) mark Sign & Sealed in the presents (sic-t) of Hezekiah Stout James Hamillon Ezekiel Townsend Bath County April Court 1801 This Indenture of bargain and sale from John Dever to Solomon Townsend was presented(?) in court by James Hannillon and Ezekiel Townsend. And a court held on this 9th day of September 1806 it was further proved by Hezekiah Stoute (sic-t) and was ordered to be recorded.
