Obituary: Josephine Stephenson Woodzell, 2002 Source: THE RECORDER, FRIDAY, May 3, 2002 PAGE 3 Contributor: Susan Baldwin --------------------------------------------------------------------- Josephine Woodzell Mitchelltown -- Josephine Stephenson Woodzell, 95, of Mitchelltown, went to be with her Lord whom she served faithfully on April 28, 2002 at Bath County Community Hospital. She was born Nov. 10, 1906 in Burnsville, the daughter of the late John William Emmett Stapehnson and Cora Lee McAllister Stephenson. She was the oldest member of Life Line Ministries Church (Mitchelltown Pentecostal Holiness) and the fourth to become a member after its establishment in 1930. She dearly loved the church and was always faithful in her attendance, and many other areas of support until her health failed in recent years. She attended Harrisonburg State Teachers College (JMU) and taught at Deerfield for two years. In July 1931 she married Clyde G. Woodzell and they moved to Garth Newel near Mitchelltown where she lived for the next 72 years. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John and Debbie Woodzell; six grand- children, Cheri and John Fertig of Milboro, and her primary and very special caregivers with whom she currently lived; Lee Roy of Covington, JoLynn Veney of Quicksburg, Kathy Gangwer of Mount Jackson, Allison Kline of Harrisonburg, and Susan Short of Broadway, all of whom loved her much and assissted with her care. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including Holmes Rodgers, Lina Giles and Jack Woodzell; two daughters-in-law, Vera Woodzell and Garnett Hourdubey, who were always there for her. Also surviving are Margie Leavine, Mary Gillespie, Dee Shffier and Mary Neff, sisters in Christ who blessed her in so many ways, and whom she loved and appreciated tremendously. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clyde G. Woodzell; a son, William Christian "Billy" Woodzell; three sisters, Edmonia Armstrong, Priscilla Rodgers, and Rose Marshall; six brothers, Bob Stephenson, Andrew "Pee-Wee" Stephenson, Jesse Stephenson, Clyde Stephenson, and William Stephenson. She was also predeceased by several nieces and nephews and by two special friends, James Neff and Rodgers Leavine, who checked on her often after she was unable to get about. A funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, at Life Line Ministries Church, with the Rev. J. Frank Neff Jr. and Margie Leavine officiating. Internment was at Warm Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers were Alvin Law, Julian Shaffier, Frank Pritt Jr., Jimmy Bryan, Tony Petrosky, Jack Woodzell, Charlie Williams, Robert Fertig and Scott Duncan. Honorary pallbearers were her grandson and great-grandsons. The family received friends Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home or at her home at Garth Newel.
