Christian Cemetery Location: Lynchburg, Va. Go out Rivermont Avenue. Take Episcopal School road north. Cemetery located 200 yards from Episcopal School. Bedford County Cemetery located in the edge of a large body of old oak trees. This cemetery was in an unkept condition until 1832. At that time some of the Scott descendants had all of the trees and underbrush cut out of this cemetery and a concrete wall put all around one foot high and one foot wide, on top of wall is an iron fence 4 feet tall, with double iron gates leading into cemetery. Grass has been planted, shrubs of all kinds, lilac and rose bushes. Total of 62 graves in this cemetery, but only a few with markers with inscriptions on them. Same is in excellent condition today. Brass plate on each side of iron gate inscribed: Scotts Cemetery 1776-1932 (A large flat gray stone marker at the head of two graves. 6 feet long, 1.5 feet wide and 2 feet thick.) Thomas Hazelwood 1803-1861 son of Capt. Wm. W. Scott who served in the War of 1776 and Margaret Parks Burks his wife 1807-1834 In memory of Hugh Roy Scott Born August 7, 1804 Died March 3, 1869 Ida Bell Child of J.S. and Nannie Rucker Died Sept. 7, 1861 aged 12 months and 12 days Sacred to the memory of John Cabell Ward Capt. C.E. 11th Va. Inf. C.S.A. Born March 7, 1832 Died March 7, 1866 Capt. Wm. E. Scott who fought in the War of 1776, is buried in this cemetery but there is no marker to show where his grave is.
