Cox/Spikeman/Loury Deed of Trust, 1821 Deed book 16, page 500 This indenture made and entered into this twenty ninth day of May 1821 between WILLIAM COX of the first part and JESSE SPIKEMAN of the second part and WILLIAM LOURY of the third part. Whereas the said Cox is justly indebted to the said LOURY in the sum of ninety dollars for the rent of the land on which the said COX now resides. And that said William COX being desirous and willing to further secure said debt to the said LOURY. Now this indenture witnesseth that for and in consideration of the promises and also for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to the said ..... in hand paid by the said SPIKEMAN at and before this meeting and delivery of these presents the receipt in hand is hereby acknowledged and the said COX has given, granted, bargained and sold and by these presents doeth give, grant, bargain and sell and confirm to the said SPIKEMAN, his heirs and assigns forever the following property to wit: one bay horse, one cow and calf, one sow and 10 small shoalts, 1 feather bed and beding, 1 straw bed and beding, 2 dutch ovens without lids, one large iron kettle, 1/2 dozen knives and forks, 1/2 dozen spoons with all the rest of my cupboard furniture one pine table, one pine chest, one loom and the usual appendages 1 ...... shears, 1 shovel plow and 1 ....., 8 split bottom chairs, one churn, one washing tub and one ...., one mattock, one iron. ..... and 1 ..... To have and to hold the said above described property to himself and his heirs forever upon trust nenertheless that the said Jesse SPIKEMAN shall so soon as he shall be directed so to do by the said William LOURY or the said William COX, sell the said property to the highest bidder for ready money on the premises now occupied by the said William COX or so much thereof as will be sufficient to satisfy the said debt $90.00 first paying all the expenses of the said sale and the balance if any monies remain pay over to the said COX or his legal representative having first advertised the time and place of said sale for two weeks at the door of Bedford Courthouse.
