Dent Heirs Deed, 1854 - Bedford Co. VA DB 40, Pages 458-460 April 27, 1854 This Deed made this 27th day of April 1854 between William Henry Dent and Elizabeth his wife, William Dickinson and Pency W. his wife, John Huddleston and Sally Anne his wife, John Jared Dent and Polly his wife, Henry E. Jeter and Chelnessa his wife & Peter Lee Dent heirs and distributees of Peter Dent dec’d and Marble N. Dent of one part and James M. Matthews and Samuel W. Hensley of the other part. Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of Five thousand two hundred and twenty four dollars and twenty seven cents duly arranged o be paid by said Matthews & Hensley to the said Marble Dent as aforesaid to wit twenty six hundred and twelve dollars & thirteen & a half cents on the 8th day of March 1855 as by two bonds now in the hands of the said Marble N. Dent the said William Henry Dent and Elizabeth his wife, William Dickinson and Pency W. his wife, John Huddleston and Sally Anne his wife, John Jared Dent and Polly his wife, Henry E. Jeter and Chelnessa his wife & Peter L. Dent doth grant, bargain sell and deliver unto the said James M. Matthews and Samuel W. Hensley a certain tract of Land lying and being in the County of Bedford & State of Virginia containing four hundred and one fourth acres sold to the said Matthews & Hensley at thirteen dollars & two cents per acre amounting to the sum aforesaid of five thousand two hundred and twenty four dollars and twenty seven cents being the tract of Land whereon the said Peter Dent resided at the time of his death, designated and bounded as follows -- Beginning as _____ at a creek near a white oak marked as a corner thence S 472 W 154 1/2 poles to a red oak S 11 W 76 poles crossing a branch to a white oak S 88 W 134 1/4 poles crossing a branch to a red oak S 58 W 29 poles to a white oak N 32 W 34 poles crossing a branch to a hickory N 44 E 13 crossing a branch to a white oak stump N 22 1/2 W 54 poles to a white oak N 48 W 54 poles crossing a branch to a pine stump N 16 W 86 poles crossing two branches to pointers new corner to Peter L. Dent N 49 1/2 E 144 poles to a rock pile & stake S 1 W 5 1/4 poles to a gum tree on a branch thence down said branch as it meanders to the beginning -- reserving 30 feet square around the grave yard, continuing as aforesaid four hundred & one & a forth acres be the same more or less, it is sold by the acre and the said grantors on their part will warrant generally the tract of Land hereby conveyed, designated and described -- Witness the following signatures and seals. Keen and Jeffry Woody Justices of the peace for the County of Franklin in the State of Virginia do certify that Elizabeth Dent wife of William Henry Dent whose names are signed to the annexed deed or writing bearing date on the 21st day of April 1854 personally appeared before us in the County aforesaid in the State aforesaid and being by us examined privily and apart from her husband and having the deed or writing of aforesaid fully explained to her she the said Elizabeth Dent acknowledged the said writing on deed to be her act and declared that she had willingly executed the same and does not wish to retract it. Jeter, Peter Lee Dent whose names are signed to the annexed deed or writing bearing date the 27th April 1854, and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and desired us to certify the same to the Clerk of the County aforesaid in order that the same may be recorded -- Given under our hands & seals this 6th May 1854. Jeter whose names are signed to the annexed deed bearing date 27th day of April 1854 personally appeared before us in the county aforesaid and being examined by us privily and apart from their husbands and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to them, they the said Pency W. Dickinson, Sally Anne Huddleston, Polly Dent & Chelnessa Jeter acknowledged the said deed or writing to be their act and declared that they each & severally had willingly signed and executed the same and that they do not wish to retract it -- Given under our hands this 6th day of May 1854.
