The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ****************************************************************************** Land Grant to James Freeman 07-231.523 The following is a copy of the text of a Land Grant to James Freeman, Bedford County in 1773: This Indenture, made this __day of ______ One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy Three between Charles Lynch and Robert Cowan, Attorneys in fact for Thomas Pleasants and Thomas Pleasants Junr. of the one Part and James Freeman of Bedford County of the other part. WITTNESSETH that the said Lynch and Cowan for in Consideration of the sum of Twenty Pounds to them in hand paid the Receipt hereof they doth hereby acknowledge hath granted, bargained and sold and by these present doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said James Freeman, two hundred and forty two acres on Falling Mountain, beginning at Preston’s corner white oak in the pattent line, thence along the pattent line south fifty degrees west, sixty poles to a corner white oak on Falling Creek west two hundred and fifty-six poles to a white oak in pattent line off north thirty five degrees east, two hundred and forty poles to a Chesnut north sixty poles to Pointers, north eighty degrees, east one hundred and fifty-eight poles to a white oak north thirty six degrees east, one hundred poles to the pattent line hence along the same south thirty five degrees east one hundred poles to the pattent line hence along the same south thirty-five degrees east one hundred poles to Preston’s corner, thence along his line south eighty degrees west, one hundred poles to his corner, black jack south, twenty degrees west two hundred poles to a Gum and red oak and north seventy degrees east, one hundred and sixty poles to the beginning. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the above Granted land and premises with the appertenances to the—Belonging with the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders and every part and parcel thereof unto him the said James Freeman his heirs and assigns forever and said Charles Lynch and Robert Cowan doth in behalf of the said Executors and their heirs covenent, grant and agree to and with the said James Freeman his heirs and assigns that the said Lynch and Cowan them and their heirs the above granted land and promises unto the said James Freeman, his heirs and assigns shall and will by these present warrent and forever defend. In Witness whereof they the said Chas. Lynch and Robert Cowan hath hereunto set their hands and affixed their Seals the day and year written. Chas. Lynch L.S. Rob. Cowan L.S. MEMORANDUM. That on the day and year within written quiet and peasable possession and livery of seisin was made and done by the within Chas. Lynch and Rob.
