They were in WORD document format and probably not workable for the Bedford County US GEn Web site since I have not seen them yet. I've reformatted them in ANS (notebook) format and hopefully they will be useful. After doing all the work, I'd like others to be able to share them.  Robert E. McCormack 1631 Ponderosa Way Palm Springs, CA 92264 (760) 320-6272 BEDFORD COUNTY, VIRGINIA DEEDS Sorting out the family groups for the children of Micajah McCormack and Fanny Anderson of Bedford County, Virginia is the objective of this project .The following abstracted deeds will show Virginia neighbors, several who connect back in the counties of New Kent , Hanover, Goochland Louisa and finally, Bedford County. Familiar names include: McCormack, Anderson, McGeorge, Payne, Pate, Hunter, Adams, and others. William Anderson (brother to Fanny McCormack) purchases 200 acres of land on both sides of Beaverdam Creek as early as 1769 and Micajah and Fanny McCormack are his neighbors by 1782. Properties seem to be concentrated in the area of Kates (Cates) Creek, a branch of Beaverdam Creek. Grantors and Grantees have been combined and an attempt was made to abstract as near as possible to the original spellings found in the documents. Corrections and additions are welcomed. Language refers to the parcel he bought from his father. He purchased this tract from Micajah McCormack in 1815 for the same amount--$200. There are no records of him owning land in Breckinridge County, KY. His wife, Mary appears to be in Roane County, Tennessee about 1817- 1818. Perhaps Anderson is in declining health and selling off his land. 1819 Robert Nimmo David Barton Deed 22 306- 65 ½ A Kates Cr. Recd Jr. & wife Kiziah 307 1831 & Fanny ? At Court held for Bedford County at the Courthouse the 28th day of February 1831 (?). This indenture of bargain and sale together with the certificate of acknowledgement & relinquishment of dower __(?) was proved in Court and ordered to be recorded. Note from Flo Cox: Micajah McCormack, Jr's wife, Sarah Frances Barker was also called Fanny McCormack. I believe it was David Barton (Jr) and Ceziah and Fanny McCormack, wife of Micajah McCormack, Jr. selling to Robert Nimmo (who married into my Simmons line). A Micajah McCormack married Sarah Barker in Bedford county 29 May 1798. Is this the Fanny above (Sarah Frances Barker perhaps?)? Recd Nimmo, William Fanny Deed 22 306 65 1/2 on Kate's . The appears to be a transaction between father and son. No money is stated. Junior sometimes designates there is someone in the community by the same name and this is the younger of the two. 1823 McCormack, Samuel & Order No. 485 Suit Samuel & Dennis, John Sparrel Hale Book 1 Sparrel Hale Meador & Abel Ptiffs; Dennis Meador McCormack, John Meador and Abel Meador Deft. Of Execution on a forfeited forthcoming Bond taken on a Writ of Fieri Faeias (?) sued out of this Court by the Plaintiff against the Defendant Dennis McCormack and John Meador his appearance Bail. This day came the Plaintiff by their Attorney and it appearing to the Court from the oath of Elisha Kien (?) Deputy Sheriff that the Defendants have had legal notice of this motion they were Solemnly called but came not where upon it is considered by the Court that the Plaintiffs may have execution against the Defendants for Two hundred and forty one dollars and sixteen cents the penalty of the said forthcoming Bond and that they recover against the Defendants their costs by them in this behalf expended. But this Judgment is to be discharged by the payment of One hundred and twenty dollars and fifty eight cents with legal Interest thereon from the 31st day of March 1823 til payment and the costs. In 1815, Dennis McCormack purchased 254 acres on Blue Ridge Mountain from Samuel Howel for $200 which he sold two years later to Abraham Baker for $1200 (nice appreciation). It brings to question whether he actually ever lived there before moving to Franklin County. Is this suit related to that sale? How do John Meador and Abel Meador connect? Are both related to Mary Meador McCormack, wife of Dennis McCormack? Note from Marilee Russell: A writ of fieri facias is a writ of execution i.e. a legal procedure that provides for the enforcement of a judgment for debt or damages. The writ was issued after the Plaintiff had won an underlying lawsuit against Dennis McCormack. The other named persons may or may not have been defendants in the original lawsuit. Dennis lost the suit, perhaps by default. From the abstraction, it appears that John Meador had been the surety ("made bond") for The original Defendant or Defendants. When the Defendant or Defendants did not appear or discharge (pay) the amount of the judgment had been decided against, the bond was forfeited 1824 Carner, Elijah Franky Deed 18 268 100A adj Richard McCormack, McCorm- ack, & C. This Indenture of bargain and sale was certified by the justices of the peace for said County and ordered to be recorded. John McCormack, son of William McCormack (stated on bond) married Franky Carner in 1808 Note from Flo Cox: The title of Jr. was also assigned to a man who lived in the neighborhood of another man by the same name, to distinguish that one was older than the other. Note from Betty Ravenholt: I know of a large number of instances where Jr. simply meant a younger John or whoever than another John or whoever also living in the vicinity. The use of Jr. did not necessarily imply a father/son relationship in those days. I have seen that quite a bit in tax lists, for example. 1826 McCormack, Micajah Deed 20 65 100 A Cates Cr Richard McCormack Adj Robert Nimmo, Wm Carner & C. . .made this sixteenth day of January 1825 between Micager McCormack of the county of Bedford of the one part, & Richard McCommack of the same county of the other part, witnesseth that the said Micager McCommack for and in consideration of the sum of six hundred dollars paid to him the said Micajer in hand, the receipt he doth hereby acknowledge, hath given, granted, bargained & sold to the said Richard McCommack, a certain tract or parcel of land, lying and being in the county of Bedford, containing one hundred acres . . .
