VA Land Grant: Zachariah Moorman 98 Acres, Bedford County, VA, "On Candlers Mountain & the forks of Rock Castle Creek" From: Virginia Grants B, 1779-1780, pg.s 188 - 189 Thomas Jefferson Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to All whom these presents Shall come Greeting Know ye that in consideration of the Ancient Composition of Ten Shilling sterling paid by Zechariah Moreman into the Treasury of this Commonwealth share is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said Zechariah Moreman a certain Tract or parcel of Land Containing by survey bearing the date 29th Jany 1778 ninety eight acres lying and being in the county of Bedford on the forks of RockCastle Creek and bounded as followeth, to wit Beginning at his own corner chestnut, thenon along his line north thirty two east seventy poles to his corner Spanish oak thence off South twenty East Sixty four poles to a Double chestnut, on the foot of Candlers Mountain thence along and upon the N, W, Side of Said mountain forty east, one hundred and sixty poles to a Black Jack, thence off the Mountain South Seventy five West Sixty Six poles to a Red oak on his own Line thence along his Lines North Eighteen East twelve poles to his own corner Red oak North Seventy one West 48 po. to his Corner White Oak north fifty East Eighteen poles to his corner Red oak in the fork of the Said creek North thirty two East one hundred and twenty eight poles to his corner Hickory and South Eighty East Ninety poles to the final Station With its appurtenances to have and to hold the said Tract or parcel of Land with its appurtenances to the said Z[echariah] Moorman and his heir forever in Witness whereof the said Thomas Jefferson Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath here Set his hand and caused the Seal of the Said Commonwealth to be affixed at Williamsburg on the first day of december in the year of Our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and seventy nine and of the Commonwealth the fourth Thomas Jefferson Submitted by by Ed Marsh **************************************************************** USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
