This Indenture made this twenty sixth day of September Anno Dom One thousand 
Seven 
hundred and eighty Seven between Dan Stockton and Catherine his wife of the 
County 
of Bedford of the one part & Francis Hopkins of the same County of the other 
part 
witnesseth that for and in Consideration of One hundred pounds Current Money of 
Virginia 
the said Dan Stockton and Catherine his Wife have bargained & sold to the said 
Francis 
Hopkins One certain tract of land in the County of Bedford containing two 
hundred and 
eighty five acres lying on the north side of Stoney(?) fork Creek Beginning at 
Robert 
Bakers and Farmers corner White Oak, thence up the branch by Farmers line North 
thirty 
three degrees West One hundred and forty eight poles to a Corner Oak above 
Farmers line 
thence South Twenty five degrees West five hundred and seventy four poles to a 
Corner 
White Oak thence along Halleys line South forty four degrees East eighty six 
poles to 
a Corner Gum thence along Bakers line North Forty nine degrees East two hundred 
and 
fourty four poles to the first station corner White Oak  To Have and to hold the 
said 
Tract of Two Hundred and eighty five acres more or less with every appertenance 
thereunto 
belonging or any wise appertaining clear from all Dower right & title of Dower 
and every 
other incumberance whatsoever to the said Francis Hopkins his Heirs and Asigns

This Indenture made this 26th day of April in the year of our Lord One thousand

and ninety-four Between Dr. Baker -- Stockton and Katherine Stockton his Wife of 
Bedford 
County on the one part, and Robert Baker of the said county of Bedford and in 
the State of 
Virginia of the other part - Witnesseth, that they the said Dan Stockton and 
Katherine Stockton his Wife for and in consideration of the Sum of Twelve pounds 
Current Money of Virginia  to them in hand paid by the said Robert Baker, the 
Reciept whereof they doe hereby acknowledge hath given granted and Sold and by 
these presents doth give grant bargain Sell and deliver unto the said Robert 
Baker to him his heirs and assigns forever One certain Tract or parcel of Land 
lying and being on the said County of Bedford on the Waters of Bore Auger Creek 
containing of Thirty Acres Be the same more or less and bounded as foloweth VIZ 
Beginning at a Poplar on the roaring branch, thence off a new line to Semans 
line upon a branch to pointers thence along  Semons line to John Bakers Corner 
White Oak, thence along Bakers line to the roaring branch thence down the branch 
to the Beginning Station. TO HAVE and to hold the said Lands and premises 
together with the priveledges and appertenances thereunto belonging unto the 
said Robert Baker his Heirs and assigns forever, and they the said Dan Stockton 
and Katherine Stockton (his wife) doth Covenant grant and agree to and with the 
said Robert Baker his Heirs and assigns that they the said Dan Stockton & 
Katherine Stockton and their Heirs the said lands premises unto the said  Robert 
Baker his Heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend against 
the claims or demands of any person or persons whatsoever.  In Witness whereof 
they the said Dan Stockton and Katherine Stockton (his wife) hath hereunto set

one part and William Stockton of the said County of Bedford and State of 
Virginia of the other 
part WITNESSETH, that they the said Dan Stockton and Catherine Stockton (his

consideration of the sum of One hundred pounds current money of Virginia to them

David Pagin & Jesse Hix & Jane his Wife of Bedford County of the one part and 
Owen Frankling of the said County of the other part.  Witnesseth that the said 
Glover Baker and Mary his Wife Dan Stockton & Catherine his Wife William Halley 
and Rebeckey his Wife Robert Baker & Hannah his wife for and in Consideration of 
forty four pounds ten shillings to then in hand paid The receipt whereof they do 
hereby acknowledge have granted bargained & sold and by these presents do grant 
bargain & Sell and deliver unto the said Owen Frankling his Heirs & Assigns one 
certain tract or parcel of land bying & being in the County of Bedford on the 
Waters of Stony(?) fork containing Seventy nine acres be the same more or less 
and bounded as follows to witt Beginning at Medleys and Butchers Corner post Oak 
thence on  Butchers and Smiths line South 24 1/2 degrees West 229 poles to 
Hopkins corner pointers then on Hopkins line South 46 3/4 East 63 poles to 
Waldens Corner White Oak thence on Waldens line North 22 degrees East two 
hundred and thirty seven poles to Pointers thence by a new line North 52 of one 
quarter degrees West 52 poles to the first Station TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said 
granted land and premises with all the appertenances thereto belonging or in any 
wise appertaining  and to him the said Owen Frankling his heirs and assigns

David Pagen Jesse Hix & Jane his wife by their certain Indenture of Bargain &

ninety five have Sold & Conveyed unto Owen Franklin the fee simple Estate of

being in the County of Bedford & State of Virginia & whereas Mary Baker wife of

conveniently travel to said County Court of Bedford to make acknowledgement of 
the same therefore do give unto you power to receive such acknowledgment when 
they the said Mary, Cathereine, Hannah & Jane are willing .. make and we command 
you or any two or more of you that .. do personally to to the Said Mary, 
Catherine, Hannah & Jane wives of the aforesaid parties and receive their 
acknowledgement that they are illing to make and examine them privily and apart 
from the said Glover Baker, Dan Stockton, Robert Baker & Jesse Hix their 
husbands whether they do the same freely voluntarily without their persuasions 
or threats and whether they be willing that the same should be recorded in our 
said County Court of Bedford aforesaid that you distinctly & pl... certify us 
thereof in our said Court under your Seals  and return also this Writ Witness 
James Steptoe Clerk of our said Court at the Court house the 6th day of July 
1797 In the ...? year of the Commonwealth. [signed]

Bedford County towit,
   In obedience to the within commission to us directed we did go to Mary Baker 
wife of Glover Baker Catherine Stockton wife of Dan Stockton Hannah Baker wife 
of Robert Baker & Jane Hix wife of Jesse Hix and privily examine them apart from 
their husbands whether they do relinquish their right of Dower in seventy nine 
acres of land in the County of Bedford & State of Virginia sold by their 
husbands to Owen Franklin which they declare they do willingly and Freely 
without the persuassions or threats of their said Husbands and are willing that 
this acknowledgment should be recorded Given under our hands & Seals this 25th

This Indenture made 15th day of august in the year of our Lord One thousand 
eight hundred and fifteen between Newbury Stockton Bethsheba his wife of 
Greenbriar County of the State of Virginia of the one part and John Patterson of 
the County of Bedford and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the 
said Newbury Stockton and Bethsheba his wife for and in condiersation of the sum 
of seven hundred dollars current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the 
said John Patterson the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given 
granted bargained sold aliened and enpossed(?) and confirmed and these present 
doth give grant bargain sell alien and enposs(?) and confirm  unto the said John 
Patterson his heirs and assigns one certain tract or parcel land containing by 
survey one hundred and forty acres situate lying and being in the County of 
Bedford on the waters of Boreauger Creek it being the land willed to us by 
William Stockton decd and bounded as followeth to wit Beginning at a Gum corner 
of Joseph Falls and John B Bowen and running thence south twenty nine East 
fifteen & half poles to a white oak thence south thirty one west seventy four 
poles to a beach by a spring branch thence south seventy west forty nine poles 
to an ash on the spring branch south eighty six west thirty two poles to a 
poplar north fifty eight west fifty six poles to a poplar south eighty three & 
half west eighteen poles to a hickory on the old line then with the same north 
thirty eight & half west & one hundred & sixteen poles to a chesnut oak north 
eighty east one hundred & three poles to  a chesnit Oak south sixteen & half 
east one hundred & four poles to a maple on Rouring Run down the meanders of the 
same to where it turns off the black oak south eighty eight & half east one 
hundred & six poles to the black oak north forty six east sixty two poles down 
the meanders of the same to a poplar south thirty three east forty two poles to 
the begining
   Together with its appertenances thereunto belonging to have and to hold the 
said tract of land with its appurtenances ith the said John Patterson his heirs 
or assigns for ever to the only proper use and behoof [*advantage; benefit; 
interest; use] of him the said John Patterson and his heirs and assigns forever 
and the said Newbury Stockton and Bethsheba his wife for themselves and their 
heirs doth covenant to and with the said John Patterson his heirs or assigns the 
said Newbury Stockton and Bethsheba his wife and their heirs will forever 
covenant and defend the said one hundred and forty acres of land with all its 
appurtenances unto the said Jno Patterson and his heirs and assigns forever 
against the just claims of any other person or persons whatsoever in witness 
whereof the said Newbury Stockton Bethsheba his wife hath hereunto subscribed 
their names and affixed their seals the day and year first above written.

    Newbury Stockton as party to the foregoing deed personally appeared before

and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed which is hereby certified.  
Given under my hand this 15th day of August 1815.

    We Justices of the peace in the county aforementioned in the state of 
Virginia do hereby certify that Bethsheba Stockton wife of Newbury Stockton 
parties to a certain deed for the conveyance of real estate to John Patterson 
bearing dates the 15th day of august 1815 and hereto annexed personally appeared 
before us in our county aforesaid, and being examined by us privily and apart 
from her said husband & having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her she the 
said Bethsheba acknowledged the same to be her mark and deed and declared that 
she had illingly signed, sealed and delivered the same and that she wished not 
to retract it.  Given under our hands and seals this 15th day of august 1815.

This Indenture made and entered into this 15th day of November 1819 between 
Newbury Stockton and Rachel his wife of Kentucky state & County of Barren of the 
one part and John Patterson of Virginia state & County of Bedford of the other 
part Witnesseth that the said Newbury Stockton & Rachel his wife for and in 
consideration of three hundred and fifty dollars to then in hand paid the 
receipt where of is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and by these 
presents do bargain sell alien enfocff(?) and confirm to the said John Patterson 
one certain parcel or Tract of Land containing one hundred and fifteen acres 
more or less lying and being in Virginia state & County of Bedford and bounded 
as follow a correct(?) line beginning at a chesnut on the bank of the Racoon 
Branch corner is Joseph Fall, thence with his line North 32 1/2 E. 4 poles to a 
Dogwood, thence N 24 12 West 33 poles to a poplar, thence North 58 west 56 poles 
to a poplar, thence South 83 1/2 West 18 poles to a hickory, thence to a (xing?) 
Newbury Stocktons line, south 16 west 44 poles to a chesnut Oak thence south 71 
west 32 poles to a black oak thence South 27 degrees west 130 poles to a poplar 
thence South 52 1/2 East 71 poles  to a  Mahogany on the head of the Racoon 
Branch and thence down the meander of the same North 37 1/2 East 190 poles to 
the beginning with its appertenances To Have and to Hold the said land with its 
appertenances to the said John Patterson & his heirs forever and the said 
Newbury Stockton and Rachel his wife do and will forever warrant and defend to 
the same John Patterson & his heirs against(?) and sufficient lawful right and 
title in fee simple do the (?) land free fron the ... or claims of all and every 
person or persons whatsoever. 
In testimony whereof they have subscribed their hands & Seals the day and year

We the undersigned Justices of the peace in and for said County of Barren do 
certify that this Indenture from Newbury Stockton & Rachael his wife to John 
Patterson and acknowledged before us by the said Newbury Stockton & wife to be 
their certified Deed also the actual Rachael being by us privily examined .... 
and apart from her said husband saith that she signed the said Indenture freely 
& voluntarily agreed and delivered the said Indenture (which was shown and 
explained to her by us) without the persuasion or threats fo her said Husband 
and that she wished not to retract it that the same should .... in the state of 
Virginia in the County where the land lies.  In Testimony whereof we have

certified to have been Acknowledged were Justices of the peace in and for the 
County of Barren be fully(?) commissioned and qualified and that all due faith & 
credit in and ought to be secure(?) to any of their official acts as well in 
Power(?) of Justices authority
