Shrewsbury/Ray Deed, 1870 - Bedford Co. VA Bedford County, Virginia DB 44, Page 418 This Deed made this 26th day of January 1870 between Rhoda M Shrewsbury of the one part and Archibald A. Ray of the other part, witnessed that in consideration of the sum of Fifty dollars in hand paid to the said Rhoda M. Shrewsbury by the said Archibald A. Ray the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged by the said Rhoda M. Shrewsbury, doth grant with general warranty unto the said Archibald A. Ray all the interest (being one-eighth) in the dower interest held by her mother Nancy Shrewsbury as relic of Nathan Shrewsbury deceased and Dower consisting of forty acres lying in the County of Bedford and of which a plat and survey was returned to Bedford County Court at its January Term 1870 and by said Court ordered to be recorded. To which plat and survey reference is hereby made for a more particular description of said land. Witness the following signatures and seal this the day and year first above written. Rhoda M. Shrewsbury (SEAL) State of Virginia County of Bedford to wit I William W. Ray Justice for the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia do certify that Rhoda M. Shrewsbury whose name is signed to writing hereto annexed bearing date on the 26th day of January 1870 has acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid. Ray, came on interest in real estate was produced in said Office, stamped with Fifty Cents United States Internal Revenue Stamps, canceled according to law, and together with the certificate thereto annexed, admitted to record.
