Insufficient Evidence of service. 1st Va Reg. Commanded by Col. Sutton not Col. Green.- To [?] Aug. 28, 47 RLD Sept. 3 1847 Rejected [?.?.] Daniel, A. Gen. To his Excellency the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, The memorial of the heirs and loyal representatives of Henry Laughon decd. late a private in the Virginia Continental line in the War of the Revolution Respectfully Sheweth that the said Henry Laughon in the year 1777 enlisted under Captain Alexander Cummins in the Virginia Continental Line to serve for the term of five years and was attached to the first Virginia Regiment Commanded by Col. Green. That he served the said term faithfully and was honorably discharged from service all of which will more appear by reference to the army Register of the Continental Line and the accompanying of respectable persons affidavit who knew that he served as a regular in the War of the Revolution to its close or end. Your Memorialist further states that in his lifetime he never applied for or drew the land Bounty promised by the state of Virginia, no have his heirs -- since his death applied for or drew the same. Your Memorialist therefore humbly prays that your excellency will grant them the usual quantity of land allowed to soldiers of the Virginia Continental line persuant to the laws of Virginia in such cases made and provided and as in duty bound shall ever pray VL. his Isham X Laughon mark State of Virginia Bedford County to Wit. This day Isham Laughon one of the heirs of the said Henry Laughon came before me a Justice of the peace in & for the County aforesaid and made oath that he had seen Henry Laughon at different times return home on a ferlow and that he had on his uniform clothes & that he knew of his returning & absence from home to the close of the war and had frequently heard him state that he had served during the whole war and the facts as set forth in the foregoing memorial he believes to be true. Given under my hand and seal this 19th day of March 1844. Lewis L. Arthur (seal) State of Virginia Bedford County to Wit. This day personally appeared John Ayers before me a Justice of the Peace in & for the County aforesaid and affirmed that he was personally acquainted with Henry Laughon and that the said Henry Laughon sented a part [sic] of his Father Land during the Revolutionary war and that he was absent from home as a Regular Soldier near the whole of the war & he believes that it was more than three years before he came home; and that he understood he was at the taking of Corn Wallace mot untill after that time did he return home at the end of the war; and that he believes that no family suffered more than Henry Laughons family did during the Revolutionary war. And that Isham Laughon is a son of Henry Laughon; that he was acknowledged by the said Henry Laughon to he his son. Given under my hand and seal this 6th day of March 1844 James L.
