Application for Widow's Pension, Rev. War, Mary Welsh, 1841 - Bedford Co. VA Declaration of Mary Welsh Under the Act of Congress Passed July 7th, 1838 State of Virgnia, Bedford County On this 21st day of October, 1841, before me Robert Campbell a Justice of the Pease, in and for said county personally appeared Ms Mary Welsh Aged 96 years - a respectable resident of said county, who being duly sworn according to law, doth, on her oath, make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provission made by the Act of Congress, passed July 7, 1838, entitled" An act granting half pay and provisions to certain widows". That she is the widow of Dominick Welsh - alias Walsh - who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, State Line Service in both infantry and Cavalry - that he enlisted in said county in the early part of the war - probably under Capt. Geo. Lambitt or Gress(?) Scrugge and marched to the north - and thinks he was at the Battle of German Town - and was at Fort Pitt at one time - from whence he went down the Ohio - and was statioed at Fort Boone on the Kentucky Frontier - and that about the year 1778 he enlisted under Capt. Jno. Rogers of the Cavalry, Virginia State Line service - and performed the greater part of his services as such, in the Illionois Territory - and was in Detriot at one time - and about the close of Revo’y was encamped or stationed on the military lands of Kentucky - and while there her husband , the aforesaid Dominick Welsh - alias Walsh marked his name on a tree where he wished Capt Rogers to locate his land 200 acres which was on the waters of Green River - and that he was also entitled to 100 acres more in Illionios - in concideration of his service during the war. That her husband drew his land warrent for 200 acres - which he gave to Capt. Rogers to locate for him - which she understood he did do - and that her husband paid for the surveying ??? Declarant also heard the aforesaid Dominick Welsh speak of receiving his certificate for the amt. due him for his services at the close of the war - which was for a large amount - and that he put into Capt. Sam’l Scott’s hand to collect for him. And she the declarant says - that she was married to said Dominick Welsh - alias Walsh - in the month of October 1785 - and that her husband the aforesaid Domonick Welsh died October 1813 - that she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, but the marriage took place previous to the first day of January 1794 - viz., at the time time above stated - as will more fully appear by the proof ??? - marriage bond - and that she has remained unmarried every since the death of her husband as aforesaid to the present time, and that her husband - Welsh - was an Irishman naturally and declarants maiden name was Parker.
