She was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Russell County, Va., a daughter of the late William Patton Robinson and Cora Meldonia Robinson. She lived in Bristol, Tennessee for 30 years and had made her home at Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta the last 21 years. Mrs. Wallace was a loving woman who cherished her role as wife and homemaker. She was a friend to all and believed "family" was a person's greatest blessing. She was a member of Spring City Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, Aubrey Rasnic, a brother, Jimmy Robinson, and two sisters, Audrey Williams and Virgie McCloud. She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Nuel L. Wallace; a niece whom she claimed as a daughter, Nancy Hickman and her husband Bill of Piney Flats; and their daughters, whom she claimed as granddaughters, Mrs. Rick (Nicole) Phelps of Swannanoa, N.C., and Renee Hickman of Knoxville; a brother, Newlin Robinson of Cedar Bluff; two sisters, Beulah Hubble of Bristol, Va., and Mrs. George (Mabel) Thomas of Lebanon; a stepdaughter, Mrs. John (Loretta) Yeaman and her family of Martinsville, Va., and a stepson, Butch Wallace and his family of Roanoke. "Aunt Merlie" had many nieces and nephews whom she cherished. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel in Lebanon, with the Rev. Larry DeVault, minister at Cassidy United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon. Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews, Ronnie Hubble, Roger Hubble, David Robinson, Pete Robinson, George "Spunky" Thomas and Robert McCloud. The family will receive friends 1-3 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home. Combs Funeral Service in Lebanon is serving the family of Mrs. Wallace.
