Obituary of Thomas Waugh, 1911 - Bedford Co. VA Mr. Thomas Waugh was born in Virginia, October 18,1833 and died at his home in the Pleasant Plains Neighborhood, 7 1/2 miles south of Vandalia,Missouri, at noon on Thursday, August 17, 1911, with Paralysis. Although born in Virginia, he was partly raised in Pike Co.,MO, where he resided for nearly 25 years. After he grew up, he engaged in farming on his own account, following it without interruptions and with satisfactory success. On May 6, 1867, he was married to Sarah J. Gillum, the daughter of James L. Gillum of Jersey Co.,IL. In 1874, Mr. Gillum moved to Audrain Co.,MO, and bought land where he died on February 3, 1881. Mr. Waugh had the misfortune of losing his wife, after 14 years of happy married life. At her death she left him four children, Angie Price, Etta, Cora Bell, and James. All of whom were present at there father's death, except James, who was called home from Texas by telegram, but arrived to late to see him alive. One year and 3 months later, after his first wife died, he married a half sister of his first wife, whose name was Eliza Gillum. She was the widow of Monroe Pritchett and a daughter of James Gillum by his second second marriage. On May 24, 1892, death claimed her. On October 10, 1900, he was married to Mrs. M.C. Northcutt, the widow of J.W. Northcutt, which whom he lived with until death snatched her away suddenly on March 21, 1902. Mr. Waugh joined the Methodist Church group as a youth. He lived as a constant member until his death, gaining the confidence of all. He was a charter member and a steward in the church for 30 years. He was welcomed back into his old home, with his daughter Angie, after the death of his last wife. She made it pleasant for him. His funeral was preached by Pastor Reverend Roberts of Laddonia,MO., at the Pleasant Plains Methodist Church on Saturday at 10 A.M., where a large concourse of friends met to show a last tribute of respect. He left behind 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 1 brother, William of Bowling Gr.,MO., (they lived at Booth where I remember visiting, with my parents). His remains were laid to rest in the Vandalia Cemetery to await his resurrection.
