Know All men by these presents that we James Cotterall and Josiah Carter Jr. are
held and firmly bound unto James Pleasants Esq governor chief magistrate of
Virgina in the sum of one hundred and fifty Dollars Virginia currency for the
true payment of which to the said governor his successors for the use of this
CommonWealth we bind ourselves each of us one and each of our heirs Exors &
Admrs jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and
dated this 22nd day of Novr 1824
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage
shortly intended to be had and solemnized betwen the above bound James Cotterall
and Polly Carter 
Now if there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then the
above obligation to be void Else remain in full force and virtue.
