Know all men by these presents that we James Cottrell and Braxton Carter are
held and firmly bound unto John M. Gregory Esq Lieutenant & acting governor
chief magistrate of the commonwealth of Virginia in the just & full sum of one
hundred and fifty dollars lawful money of Virginia, for the payment whereof well
and truly to be made to the said governor and his successors & administrators
jointly & severally firmly by these presents sealed and dated this 28th day of
October 1842
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage
shortly intended to be had and solemnized between the above bound James Cottrell
& Mary Ann Margaret Carter daughter of Mr. Braxton Carter of this County. 
If therefore there be no legal cause to obstruct said marriage then the above
obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
