(illegible - part of standard form) Witness Sarah Markham (Note:signed shakily but in full) John Markham (Note: signed in full) (seal) (Note: The two signatures are in the same handwriting. The consent is not dated.) To the Clerk of Bedford his James (L) Markham mark (Note: This James' mark is an L with a small line crossing the top of the L from upper right to lower left. It shows up in several other documents. ) Sir Please to Give license for James Markham to intermarry with my daughter Peggy, (?) oblige. Witness (illegible part of form) William Rees (or Kees) Mr (?) Charles Swain stated (?) has knot (sic) any objection to the Said Man. his Jno. (/S) Swaine (Note: Jno.'s Mark is just a squiggle, but not an X - more like a flat o) mark To the Clerk of Bedford John Swaine swore that both parties were 21 years of age (Note: It is barely possible that the remark about no objection says Jno. Charles Swain, but it's very hard to see on my copy. It is written in Mr. Rees' handwriting, not the Clerk's. There is no date.) Karen Marcum Brandon
