Will of William I Dickerson, 1845 - Bedford Co. VA Will Book 14, Page 354 William I. Dickerson Will Signed: June 15, 1845 Proved : July 25, 1852 In the name of God, Amen. I William I. Dickerson of the County of Bedford, being of sound mind and disposing memory, and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life, and being desirous to dispose of all such wordily estate as it hath pleased to God to keep me with. I give and bequest the same in manner following this is to say. 1st. I desire that after my decease my earthly remains be buried in a decent manner. That the perishable part of my estate be sold by my executor herein after named, and out of the money ensuing from such sale, in the first place pay my funeral expenses and all my just debts. 2nd. I give to my son Hesekiah Dickerson, one negro Sammie which he has already received, with all other property heretofore received of now, and Sixty dollars ($60.00) which is to be all he gets from my estate. 3rd. I give to my grandson Alexander Smith the only remaining heir of my Daughter, Sally Smith deceased, formerly Sally Dickerson, a negro boy Willy which she has received, and all other property she received of me during her life time, and after resigning to my estate one hundred dollars ($100.00) which Henry Smith borrowed of me I give to him one equal seventh part of my estate not herein otherwise disposed of, but in the event he, Alex Smith, dies without a lawful issue of his body then that portion of my estate bequested to him to fall back to my estate and be distributed to my other legatees as though this Item had not appeared in the will. 4th. I give to my daughter, Polly Parson, formerly Polly Dickerson, one negro girl Nelly and all other property she has received of me and also one seventh part of my estate not being otherwise disposed of to be paid to the lawful heirs of her body as they respectively come of age by my executors, and in the event of no heir of her body being alive at my decease, then her portion of my estate to fall back to my estate as in the 2nd Item of this will. 5th. I give to my daughter Fanny Bowles, formerly Dickerson, one negro boy Jeremiah and all other property heretofore received and also her equal one seventh part of my estate not herein otherwise disposed of, to be paid to the lawful heirs of her body as they come of age, by my executors. 6th. I give to the lawful heirs of the body of my daughter Elizabeth Overstreet, Decd, formerly Elizabeth Dickerson, one negro girl Mary, and all other property received of me, also her equal seventh part of my estate, not otherwise disposed of. To be paid them as they become of age, by my executors. 7th. I give to my son, James Dickerson a negro boy Plesant and all other property received of me, and also one equal seventh part of my estate not herein otherwise disposed of, to him and his heirs forever. 8th. I give to my son, William Dickerson a negro boy Doctor, with all other property he has received from me, also one seventh part of my estate not herein otherwise disposed of, to him and his heirs forever. 9th. I give to my daughter Nancy Smith formerly Nancy Dickerson, a negro boy Wyatt, and all other property she has received of me together with one seventh part of my estate to her during her natural life, and at the demise of the lawful heirs of her body, it is to fall back to my estate, as in the 3rd and 4th Items of this will. 10th. It is my will and desire and I hereby set my old negro woman Darlene free at my decease and she is to live with my son James Dickerson, to be treated kindly, made comfortable during her life, and my son James to receive fifty dollars ($50.00) in addition to the legacy herein given him in the 7th Item in this will. And, lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my sons James Dickerson and William Dickerson and my friend Alexander Kasey, Jr. Executors to carry out this my last will and testament, hereby making all other former wills or testaments by me before made. Dickerson deceased, was produced in Court, proved by the oaths of Chestey Cundiff and David Dickerson subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And, on the motion of Alexander Kasey, Jr. and of the executors in said will named who under oath and together with Alexander Jordan and Christopher Cundiff his security entered into and acknowledge bonds in the penalty of forty eight hundred dollars conditioned according to investigation be granted him for obtaining a probate of said will in due form. And liberty is reserved to the other executors to join in the probate whenever they may think fit. Teste. A. A.
