Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. **************************************************************** Submitted by Cheryl Chasin 3504 Barkley Drive Fairfax, VA 22031 Will of William Harris, Bedford County, Will Book W-20, P. 310 In the name of God, knowing that I am mortal and must die I feale it to be a duty and privilege to give some direction for the distribution of my goods and property and my wish is that my wife shall brake up house keeping as she will be alone and live with one of her children or anyon she may chous and to receive a sum from my estate for the intrust to support her say $1000 dollars to be put in Bank or in some safe hand who will give good securyty which sum shall be divided equal with all my children after her death and I further wish my land to be sold with all my other property except the nigros. The nigros I wish to be devized among my children and as the difrent sizes and ages of the nigros is various they shall be lotted out and valued and each child draw and then all the lots to be made equal from the proceds of the other property and then I wish the ballance to be equelly devided between the hole of my children except $500 dollars I wish Timothy to have extray which shall be put in some good hands for safe keeping but when my Escutors think he can manage his matters with safety he may have the controls of it but until then he may only draw the interest as he may need and now I wish to and do appoint James F. Johnson of Liberty with my son Yancy to execute this my last will & testament. N. B. I wish to give my grandson Whitefield Witt three hundred dollars as his portion as his mother is ded. Again in the distribution of my extate the somes that I have given to each child as will be found on another page in this sheet. William Harris I have deliberately maid this distribution of my estate and if I shall be cald to die without changeing it I wish it to be executed. William Harris Somes and property given of to my children and for which they must account in the division of my estate. To my son Stephen I have given 75 acres of land at 2 dollars pr acre $150 To my son Absolom I have given the same as do $150 I gave my daughter Sally Thomson one negro girl worth $150 I have given to my daughter Marian now Marian Stine one nigro girl worth $150 I have given my daughter Elizabeth now Elizabeth Lawmonone nigro girl named Winney worth $300 I am indeted to my sons John & Yancy & Absolom and my daughter Sally to each of them about $35 dollars which they would have been intitled to in thare grandmothers dower estate altho I have more than paid them it has not bin so settled. I will allow it to them as I have paid Stephen that amount on that score. Filed for probate 27 November 1865. James F. Johnson & Yancy Harris refused to serve as executors. David P. Harris made oath to said will. Made bond with Yancy Harris, William H. Jennings, & Anthony Habel his securities.
