From: Bedford County Virginia Courthouse Will of William Haynes Will Book 1; Pages 394, 395 Dated: 8 April 1780 Proven: 25 June 1781 In the name of God. Amen. I William Haynes being in the full excaeise of my reason and memory (Thanks be to Almighty God) and calling to mind the Maturity of my Body and Knowing that it is appointed for all men to die, do make and Ordain this my Last Will and Testament Impremis I will that out of that Estate Smith which it hath pleased God to Bles me in this life all my Just debts be punctually Paid and after the Payment thereof I give demise and dispose of the same in the following Manner Item I give to my son in law Stephen Sanders the Land and Plantation whereon I now live containg two hundred Acres to him and his Heirs forever adjoining to John Otey one Acre whereon his Mill now stands Provided the Said Otey Agreable to a former Bargains shall keep the said Mill in repair and Grind all the Grains the said Sanders shall want for the use of the said Plantation, or any other Person into whos hands the said Land may fall [2 or 3 words too light to read] and or fail the said Acre of Land is to revert to the said Sanders his Heirs or assigns Item I Lend to my Daughter Ann Ferril two Negroes to wit Lucy & Jean during her natural life and at her decease to be Equally divided Between her two daughters Mildred and Elisabeth also I give to my sd daughter Ann Ferril one Feather Bed and Furnitured. Item, I give to my son John Haynes and to my Daughter Frances Smith one Negroe Boy Peter to be Equally divided Between them. Item, I give to my Daughter Elisabeth Leftwich one Negroe boy Ceazer to her and her Heirs also a sorrel Horse called Lompey Item, I give to my Son William Haynes one Negroe man named James to him and his Heirs Item, I give to my Daughter Mildred Sanders one Negro Woman named Peg to her and her Heirs Item, I give to my daughter Mary Long, one Negroe Girl named Judith to her and her Heirs Item, I give to Elisabeth Sanders Oldest Daughter of Stephen Sanders and Mildred his wife one Negroe Girl named Sall, to her and her Heirs Item I give to my son Henry Haynes one Bay Horse and all the residue of my Estate I give to be Equally divided Between my daughter Elisabeth Leftwich and my son Henry Haynes Giving the said Henry one Feather Bed and Funitures he Accounting with the said Elisabeth for the Value there of in the Above divison. And do Constitute and appoint William Leftwich and Stephen Sanders Executors of this my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Eighth days of April one Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty. Teste Merry Carter her his Frances (X) Carter William (W) Haynes mark mark Mary Carter At a Court held for Bedford County the 25th day of June 1781 This last Will and Testament of William Haynes deceased was proved by the oaths of Merry Carter and Frances Carter Witnessed there to Subsenbed and ordered to be recorded And on the a Motion of William Leftwich Gent'n one of the Executors therein named who made Oath thereto Certificate is Granted him for obtaining Probate in due form Giving Security whereupon he together with David Wright and Merry Carter his Securities entered into and Acknowledged them Bond in the Penatly of Three Hundred Thousand Pounds for the said Executor due and faithful Administration of the said decedents Estate and performanes of his Will - Liberty being reserved the Other Executor Mentioned in said Will to Join in the Probate hereof when he shall think fit Teste.
