Will of Michael Jones, 1791 - Bedford Co. VA, Campbell Co. VA In the name of God amen. I Michael of Bedford County being weak of body but of perfect mind and memory calling to mind that it was appointed for all men to once die. I do hear recommend my soul to Almighty God the maker and preserver of all men in hopes to receive the full assurance of Salvation and my body I recommend to the dust to be buried in a Christian and deasent manner at the discretion of my Executors and for my Temporal Estate as God has bin(sic) pleased to bestoe on me. I give and dispose in manner following: In the first place my will and desire is that all my funeral charges and all my other just debts to be paid and what is then remaining I give and manner and form following: Item: I give my son Publias Jones one shilling sterling. Item: I give and bequeath part of said tract of land whereon I now live to Samuel Leason my son-in law, beginning at the dividing line a corner poplar on Thompson line on the north of the Hay road in the head of the branch. Thence across the said line to a fore and aft pine on Wood Jones line to Morris corner thence along Caldwell's line to Thompson's corner then along said line to the dividing line. Item: I lend to Ann Jones my truly and well beloved wife the land whereon I now live with all my stock of horses, cattle, sheep and hogs with my beds and all my furniture and plantation utensils to her during her natural life and after her decease, to be sold and divided equally amongst my six youngest children that is to say Susannah, Dudley, Daniels, Christiana, Lucy, Erasmus, and my desire is that my executors hereinafter mentioned should keep my beloved wife Ann Jones in possible possession of my land with all my stocks I now posses, after paying my funeral charges and just debts, during her natural life and at her decease my land to be sold with all my other estate and divided equally amongst the above named six children. I do hereby revoke all other will or wills by me made and do hereby constitute and ordain this to be my last will and testament. In witness have hereunto set my hand seal this fifteenth day on May in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty. Michael Jones L.S. In presents of us ) I do appoint Joshua Morries, Publias Jones ) Charles Hundley ) and Samuel Leason executors to this my ) John Irvin ) last will and testament ) Jacob Barnar ) At a court held for Bedford County the 22nd day of January 1791: This last will and testament of Michael Jones deceased was proved by the oaths of Charles Hundley and Jacob Barnar. Witnesses thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Publias Jones, one of the executors named therein named who made oath thereto. Certificate is granted him for obtaining probate in due form giving security whereupon he together with Charles Cobb and Edward Robinson his securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of Two-Hundred Thousand pounds for the said executors due and faithfully administration of the said descendants estate and performance of his will.
