All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Richard Cottrell cottrell@cottrellweb.org April 15, 2009, 2:25 am Source: Wiil Book 20 Page 525 Bedford County, Virginia Written: December 8, 1864 Recorded: August 27, 1866 Will of Abraham Karnes, Will Book 20 Page 525 Bedford County, Virginia Date: 8 December 1864 Probate: 27 August 1866 I Abraham Karnes of the County of Bedford and State of Virginia being sound in mind and of disposing memory do make and declare the following to be my last will and testament. 1st I desire that all my just debts shall be paid out of my personal property. 2nd And whatsoever may remain of my personal property over and above paying my just debts I give and bequeath to my wife Ann Karnes all my estate of all descriptions real and personal moneys bonds & c to have and to hold to her own use and full enjoyment her life time. 3rd And whatsoever may remain of my real and personal property after the death of my wife Ann Karnes I give and bequeath to my children to be equaly divided between my several heirs to have and to hold to their own use and full enjoyment. 4th In case after my death my wife Ann Karnes should get married and become the wife of any man I give and bequeath to her only one third of my estate and the other two thirds to my children to be divided as soon as the said Ann Karnes gets married. And I appoint my wife and oldest living son my legal and lawful exectors of this my last __ and testament. In witness I have set my hand and seal to this my last will and testament this 8th day of December 1864. Abraham Karnes (seal) Witnesses William N. Watson William Karnes At a monthly Court begun and held for Bedford County at the Courthouse thereof on Monday the 27 day of August 1866. This last will and testament of Abraham Karnes Deceased was produced in Court, proved according to law by the oaths of William N. Watson and William Karnes, the subscribing witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded. and on the motion of Ann Karnes, named as executrix in said will, who made oath thereto, and with James T. Karnes and Abraham Karnes, her securities, entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of Five hundred dollars, conditioned according to law, certificate was granted her to obtain a probate of said will in due form, which bond was ordered to be recorded. And leave was granted the executor named in said will to join in said probate whenever he may think fit. Teste A.A. Arthur C.B.C.
