Will of William Lawhorn, 1852 - Bedford Co. VA [Will Book A of Bedford Co VA, p 156] I William Lawhorn of Bedford County and State of Virginia domake this my last Will and Testament being of reasonable health and sound mind - and being anxious to order and direct the disposal of my worldly property &c which I now possess in my lifetime knowing at the same time the uncertainty of death - In the first place I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses should be paid out of my effects and the remainder thereof of my perishables to be divided equally between my two daughters Martha Graham and Lucinda Gray or their heirs. I also give and bequeath to my sons John, Noah, and Lawson or their heirs the sum of one dollar they having been furnished as much as I was able to give them. I also give to my son Henry my daughter Jane Franklin or their heirs the sum of five dollars each and Elizabeth Haynes the sum of one dollar or her heirs having made them advancements heretofore. I give and bequeath to my daughter Patsy Graham or her heirs one hundred acres of my landed estate taking the same off the lower end or east end of my trace it being a part whereon she now resides. I give and bequeath the residue of my landed estate to my daughter Lucinda or her heirs be the same more or less, by her or her heirs supporting me during my natural life in a genteel manner. The above being the disposition of my effects as I now divine I further appoint and ordain that Alexander and Lucinda Gray my executor and executrix to carry my last will and testament into full effect. Wright ) mark Elias James ) At a Circuit Court held for Bedford County the 7th day of April 1854 - This last will and testament of William Lawhorn, deceased, was this day produced in court, and proven by the oaths of Isaac L. James and James M. Wright two of the subscribing witnesses thereto - who testified that the said will was acknowledged by the testator in their presence, they being both present at the same time when the same will was signed, and thereupon the said last will and testament is ordered to be recorded. Teste Jos. Wilson Clk Know ye all by their presents that Alexander Gray, James Gray, Mercer H. Gray and Isaac S James are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwwealth of Virginia in the sum of Four Thousand dollars, to which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves jointly and severally and each of our joint and several heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals and dated this 7th day pf April 1854 --The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Alexander Gray has this day by leave of the Circuit for the County of Bedford, qualified as the executor of William Lawhorn deceased - Now if the above bound Alexander Gray shall in all respects faithfully discharge these duties as executor of the said William Lawhorn deceased, according to law - then the above obligation to be void, else to remain in full force and virtue. his Alexander + Gray (seal) mark James Gray (seal) Mercer H.
