Will of George Thomas, 1852 - Bedford Co. VA In the name of God, Amen, I George Thomas of the County of Bedford, State of Virginia, being in a low state of health, wish to dispose of my worldly effects in the following manner. I leave to my beloved wife Martha, all of my property during her natural life, except my house which I now give to my son Archibald Thomas. I require said Archibald Thomas to take charge of everything on the premises whereon I now reside, and support me and my wife during our life time, my three single daughters, Maria L. Thomas, Chloe Thomas & Patience to have a home where they now live so long as said daughters may choose to remain where they are. The above named three daughters, after the death of my wife Martha, is to have a bed and a trunk each, bed clothing equally divided among the said three daughters, also, if the metal found on said premises proves to be valuable the above shall be entitled to an equal share of the clear profits arising from said metal, also an equal division of the household and kitchen furniture among the said three daughters. After the death of my wife Martha, my son Archibald is to give my son Eldridge the sum of Eighty dollars (for past services) said Archibald to have the land, stock of all kinds to have and to hold forever, also Archibald Thomas is to pay to my children James Thomas, Winston Thomas, Harry Thomas, Harvey Thomas, Fendal Thomas, Camilla Parker, Henry Thomas, Julia Eubank, Absalem Thomas and Martha Burkholder the sum of one dollar to each of the above named of my children. I solemnly declare this to be my last will and testament, in testimony whereof I have set my hand and seal this fifth day of October in the year of Lord One thousand eight hundred fifty two.
