Will of John P. Walrond, 1835 - Bedford Co. VA Will Book 9, pp 54 & 55 In the name of God Amen. I John P. Walrond of Bedford County, VA. being sick and weak in body, but of sound mind and memory, and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life, and being desirous to dispose of such worldly estate as it has pleased God to bless me with do give and bequeath the same in the following manner that my Executors herein after named shall immediately after my decease sell my crop of tobacco now on hand, my horse and such other of my estate as should be of value sufficient to satisfy and pay all my just debts..2ndly having had a desire for some time past to sell the tract of land on which I now live, and as my wife expresses an unwillingness to continue here, should it please God to take me, I therefore wish my Executors to sell the aforesaid track of land so soon after my decease as they may be able to get fair and just price for the same, and upon such time as may be most advantageous to my heirs and out of the monies recd., therefore, I wish my Executors to pay to my wife Jiney Walrond one third for the purpose of enabling to her support herself and children upon conditions that she my said wife Jiney Walrond shall whenever desire convey to the purchaser all the rights and title that she may leave to the aforesaid tract of land lying on the Bee Mountain and containing by survey three hundred and twenty five acres more or less, it being the tract of land purchased of the heirs of William Cavender deceased, upon the following terms (I.E.) that when my aforesaid sons Labon and Jabez arrive at the age of twenty one years. I desire that the aforesaid tract of land together with all the rest of my estate of every description shall be valued by respectable and disinterested person and the amount divided between my five children and for my said sons Labon and Jebell to take the aforesaid land in partof their legacy to be equally divided them-4thly I wish my Executors to pay to my children Elizabeth, Mary Jane, and Joseph, their proportionable part of my estate as they arrive at lawful age or should marry. 5thly I give unto my wife Jiney Walrond during her natural life all or as much of my household and kitchen furniture as she may think necessary for the convenience of herself and children, together with all my crop of grain and also all my bacon and other meats which may be on hand at my decease-and at the decease of my wife I desire that the aforesaid property or so much as may then remain on hand together with all the rest of my estate not herein particularly disposed of may be equally divided between all my children to be enjoyed by them and their heirs forever and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint Thomas Preas and William Lawhorn Executors of this my last Will and Testament-In Witness whereof I have herento set my hand and affixed my seal 13th day of March 1835. his John P. WITNESSES: Wm. McGeorge Wm. Shrewsbury At a court for Bedford County at the Courthouse the 22nd day of June 1835, This last Will & Testament of John P. Walrond deceased, was exhibited in Court, proved by the oath of William McGeorge and William Shrewsbury, two subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Thomas Preas one of the executors in the said Will named, who made oath and gave bond and security in the penalty of $3000-conditioned according to law, certificate in granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form and liberty is reserved the other executor in said will named, to join in the probate whenever he may think fit.
