(Researching BROWN, DENT, LAWHORN, BANDY, WEST and other surnames) ----------------------------------------------- Joseph Brown's Will: Dated 22 August 1795 To my beloved wife Elizabeth all my personal estate with the land and appurtenances whereon now I live during her life or widowhood. To my son Jesse Dent Brown 130 acres of land I bought of William Brown, also one mare and saddle already delivered. To my son Rhodham Brown one half of a tract of land on head of Beaver Dam which I bought of Joseph Blankenship (viz) that half adjoining John Yates, also a bay horse and saddle already delivered. To my son Joseph Brown 230 acres of land being the manor tract whereon I now live after my wife Elizabeth Brown's decease or widowhood, also one black horse and saddle already delivered. To my son Hezekiah Brown the other half of the aforesaid tract of land which I bought of Joseph Blankenship next to the grind stone "Quiry", also a mare colt called Tammey and silver watch to be delivered to him at his arrival to 18 years of age. To my Daughter Orpah Brown 25 pounds lawful money of Virginia to be paid out of my personal estate after my wife's decease. To my Daughter Sarah Brown 25 pounds lawful money of Virginia to be paid out of my personal estate after my wife's decease. To my Daughter Marget Brown 25 pounds lawful money of Virginia to be raised out of my estate after my aforesaid wife's decease. After paying off my just debts and my three daughters their above mentioned sums of money, what remains of the said estate to be equally divided among my four sons and three daughters above mentioned. I desire that my son Hezekiah Brown should have three months schooling and Orpha three months and Sarah 12 months and Margaret 18 months more than what they get this present year the same to be paid out of the estate. Executors: my two sons Jesse Dent Brown and Rhoadham Brown. Witnesses: William Dent, John Dent, Sarah Dent. Proven: 26 October 1795 by William Dent and John Dent.
