Bland Co., VA Deed Book I, pages 236 - 237 - Hill to Newberry 1874

This deed made this the 11th day of July 1874, in the year one thousand 
eight hundred and seventy four, between James W. Hill and Melvina his 
wife formerly Melvina Hearn of the county of Wise and State of Virginia 
of the first and Henry Newberry of the County of Bland and State 
aforesaid of the second part.  Witnesseth that for and in consideration 
of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to them in hand paid the 
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, do grant bargain and sell unto 
the said Henry Newberry all of their interest in all the lands of which 
William Hearn dec'd lying and being in the county of Bland and State 
aforesaid and the above James W. Hill and Melvina his wife binds 
themselves to warrant generally the lands hereby conveyed.

Witnesseth our hands and seals the day and year first above written.

Wise County to wit:

I, James N. Dotson a Justice of the Peace for the County aforesaid in 
the State of Virginia do certify that James W. Hill whose name is signed 
to the foregoing writing bearing date the 11th day of July 1874.  
Acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid.  

Given under my hand this 11th day of July 1874.

Wise County to wit:

We, James N. Dotson and Levi Hoback Justices of the Peace for the County 
aforesaid in the State of Virginia do certify that Melvina Hill the wife 
of James W. Hill whose names are signed to the foregoing writing bearing 
date on the 11th day of July 1874 personally appeared before us in the 
County of aforesaid and being examined by us privily and apart from her 
husband and having the writing aforesaid fully explained to her she the 
said Melvina Hill acknowledged the said writing to be her act and 
declared that she had willingly executed the same and does not wish to 
retract it.

Given under our hands this the 11th day of July 1874.
