Present: Geo. Skillern, Robert Poage, William Hamilton & Mathias Willson, Gent. Justices. Ord. that John Mills, John Cartmill, Michael Ochletree being first sworn do view and mark a waggon road from the Muir Road below Purgatory Creek crossing tho river at Stevenson's Ford and down the river crossing at John Logan's, from thence to the County line, & report the conveniences it inconveniences thereof to the next court. On the petition of Joseph Jenkins licence is granted him to keep an ordinary at Anderson's Ferry in this County, he having entd. into bond in the sum of fifty pounds accdg. to law with Patrick Lockhart, his security. On the motion of William Preston, Gent., leave is grtd. him to include all his lands on Currin's Cove in one survey, it appearing to the court that he hath taken the legal steps of the law in that case made & provided. Tho same as next above to James McCarrell for his lands. The same to George Hairstone to include four surveys. The same as above to Thomas Goodson, to include two surveys. On the petition of Pat Lockhart, Gent., leave is grtd. him to keep an ordinary at his house in this Town, he having entd. into bond in the sum of fifty pounds with Saml. Mitchels his security accdg. to law. Captain Samuel Gill being of the Continental line, is exempted from the payment of poll tax. Jonathan Grymes and Thomas Ashley are appointed Constables in Captain Eason's Company of Militia. James Ferguson the same in Captain Cartmill's Company of Militia. The court doth appoint Thomas Rowland guardian to Sarah Rowland, orphan of William Rowland, decd. John Rowland, orphan of said Wm. Rowland, decd., chooses George Graham for his guardian. James McConnell is apptd. Surveyor of the Road in the room of Robert Burdwell. Henry Coleman is apptd. Surveyor of the Road in the room of William Madison, Gent., and Colo. Crockett to allot the hands that are to work under him on said road. The Act for calling in Redeeming certain certificates not having come to hand before this court, cannot be complyed with. William Ryan fined in twenty pounds for striking and abusing Adam Smyth, Gentleman, in the execution of his office as a Magistrate, and the Clerk is ordered to issue execution for the said fine.
