Present: Geo. Skillern, Saml. Eason, Wm. Neelly, Josiah Martin, John Baller & Robert Poage, Gent. Justices. Report of a road from Wm. Terry's to Flour's mill was returned & ordered to be recorded. Ordered that the road be established agreeable to the report & Daniel Sheloe and Saml. Eason are apptd. Surveyors thereof and it is ordered that Thomas Goodson and Christian Richards to lay off and allott the tithables to work on said road, who are to open & keep the same in repair as the law directs. Israel Christian Plff. ) agst. ) In Case William Robinson Deft. ) This day came the parties &c. & also a jury, towit: John McCraken, John Neelly, John Hutcheson, Wm. McClelan, Andrew Neelly, Andrew Armstrong, Philip Love, Thomas Taylor, James Breckinridge, Anthony Gohlson, John Hall and John Ross. Suit continued. Last will & testament of Capt. John Lewis, decd., proved & recorded. On motion of executors, Thomas Lewis and Andrew Lewis, certificate is granted for obtaining probate thereof. Whereupon they entered bond with Revd. Adam Smyth and Philip Love, their securities, accdg. to law. Ord. that Wm. Walton, Wm. Neelly, Wm. Bryants and Jamse Neelly, Junr. appraise slave and personal estate of John Lewis, deed, and make report thereof to the court. Ordered that 25 lbs. be allowed Thomas Read for a horse bridle, collar, hames & traces impresed by Granville Smith for the use of the United States. Verdict returned in favor of the deft. Plflf. to pay costs of the suit expended by deft. Leave given John Neelly to build a water grist mill on Peter's Creek on his own land. Wm. McClung, Gent., licensed to practice law in the Inferior Courts of this State. Rebecca Potts orphan of Nathan Potts is bound to James Calvsrt accdg. to law. Audley Paul is granted leave to build a water grist mill on his own land in this County. James Skidmore is apptd. Surveyor of the Road in the place of Audley Paul, discharged, the usual tithables to work under said Surveyor on said road when required to keep the same in repair as the law directs. Wm. McClenachan, High Sheriff, enters his protest against the sufficiency of the prison of this County. Boans, James McCarroll, Thomas Anderson, Malcom McClure, Benjamin Peck, Curtis Alderson, John Drake and James Elliott, who upon being elected, tried & sworn upon the issue joined went out of the court to consult of their verdict. August 15th, 1783. Present: Geo. Skillern, Martin McFarran, James Barnett, Saml. Eason, Saml. Todd & William Walton, Gent. Justices. Thos. Martin fined 6 lbs. for his contempt & insolence offered in presence of the sd. court when sitting. James McCreery fined five shillings for getting drunk, Clerk ordered to issue execution for the same. An inclusive survey of James and Preston Breckinridge's lands was returned to court and examined and ordered to be certified. But the sd. judgment to be dischd. by the payment of 1lb., 13 shillings & 7 pence with int. from 1st day of May, 1780 till paid and her costs. An account of Andrew Lapsley's collection as a Deputy Sheriff of this County for the year 1774 is returned to court settled and allowed except as to the interest, which is to be debated at a future day, by which it appears that the sum of sixty three pounds two shillings and nine pence half penny is due from him to the County.
