Wm. Fleming credited for tax on one of his Negroes for the year 1784. Estate of John Ritchey, decd., to be settled by Wm. Ward and Martin McFarran. John Glenn appointed Constable in place of John Sterling. Joseph Preston appointed Surveyor of the Road, succeeding John Mills. John Breckinridge ordered to examine the ability of James Scott touching his knowledge of the surveying business. James Green, Henry Cartmill, John Cartmill, Daniel Northrup and Christopher Hunt given leave to include all their lands in one survey. Leave granted Pat Lockhart to keep an ordinary at his house. Same to Joseph Jenkins. Charles Ellison proved his right to bounty lands. Wm. Ritchey appointed guardian of James Ritchey, Stephen, and John Ritchey, infant orphans of John Ritchey, deceased. Wm. Crebler exempted from paying poll tax on account of age and infirmity. David May credited with tax for the year 1784 on his Negro Caesar. The Grand Jury presented the following persons, to-wit: Surveyor of the road from John Handerson's land to Robert Steel's, Surveyor of the Road from the Great Ford on Catawba to the Courthouse, for not keeping same in repair. Ordered that summonses issue for the several persons presented this day by the Grand Jury. Wm. Walker and Hugh Caldwell appointed Surveyors of the Road from the top of Craigs Creek Mountain to John Taylor's Mill. Geo. Rutledge and Wm. Hamilton recommended to his Excellency the Governor as fit persons to act as Sheriff for the ensuing year. John Breckinridge appointed to examine James Scott as Deputy Surveyor. Duly qualified and took oath according to law. Anthony Goldston appointed Surveyor of the Road. John Ledgerwood appointed Surveyor of the Road. John Beard allowed pay for team and driver in the service of the Militia. Alexander Smyth appointed Duputy Clerk of the County. John Mills allowed pay for 80 rations furnished the Militia. Wm. Allen appointed Constable, succeeding John McIntire. Thomas Melhdund and James Armstrong and Richard Morris appointed to view the best way for a wagon road from Robert Armstrong's old school house through James Armstrong's plantation. Magistrates ordered to return lists of taxable property in the County. James Eddings allowed for supplies furnished the Militia. Wm. McClintock, Jr., recommended to the Assembly as a pensioner, he being wounded at the Battle of Guilford. Jacob Carper appointed guardian to Joel Watkins.
