John Gee exempted from future payment of poll taxes on account of his age and infirmity. Five pounds eleven shillings allowed John Haynes for his expense in burying a Parish poor. James Barnett took the oath as a Commissioner of the Peace for this County. Robert Harvey granted leave to open a wagon road upon the Catawba. Robert Poage refused to qualify as a Magistrate on account of his infirmity. August 10,1785. Geo. Hancock appointed Colonel in the Militia of this County. John Breckinridge appointed Major in the Militia of this County. Richard Bandy granted leave to include his lands in one survey. Samuel Reed, same as next above. James Melton, same as next above. John Kelly, same as next above. Conrod Myers, same as next above. Godfry Hamilton, same as next above. James Barnett, same as next above. James Robinson, Henry Colman, and Malcolm Hunter appointed to view the way from Capt. James Barnett's to Wm. Robinson's. William Neely, one of the Gentlemen named in the Commission of the Peace, refuses to qualify, and gives for reason that he intends to live a retired life. August 11, 1785. Sheriff ordered to give notice to several Justices named in the Commission to appear at next Court and qualify, or assign reasons for not doing so.
