Augustine Hackwith allowed 30 shillings for beef furnished the guard of the military stores from Bedford, also allowed for pasture, and horse and wagon. Thomas Miller appointed Surveyor of the Road, succeeding James Dalzell. Cornelius Duvall appointed Surveyor of the road, succeeding John West. Andrew Forguson appointed Surveyor of the Road, succeeding Job Hale. Licence granted Wm. Anderson to keep an ordinary at his ferry. James Robertson appointed to allot the hands to work on the road under David May and Anthony Gholson. Wm. Neelly granted leave to include his lands in one survey. James Wright and William Crawford appointed Overseers of the Road. Francis Smith allowed 3 pounds 10 shillings for beef furnished the Militia of this State. John Smith ordered to examine into the fitness of Joseph Paxton as a Surveyor. George Rutledge took the oaths of Justice of the Peace, of a Justice of the County Court in Chancery, and of a Justice of Oyer and Terminer. The Grand Jury presented the following persona: Surveyor of the Road from the Bedford Line to the Big Lick, for not keeping said road in repair; Thomas Lewelling for turning said road contrary to law. Surveyor of the road from the lower crossing of Roanoake to the Montgomery Line for not keeping same in repair. Wm. Taylor for altering said road contrary to law. Surveyor of the road from Michael Cloyd's to the County line adjoining Rook Bridge for not keeping same in repair. Surveyor of the road from Anderson's Ferry to Capt. Pryor's for not keeping said road in repair. Surveyor of the Road from Joseph Pryor's to _____ Smith's Shop for not keeping same in repair. Surveyor of the Road from Corbet's to the Big Ford on Catawba, for not keeping same in repair. Surveyor of the Road from Robert Steel's to the waters of Roanoak, for not keeping same in repair. Surveyor of tho Road from courthouse crossing Catawba at Robert Harvey's to the main road leading up the James River, samo. Surveyor of the Road from the Court House to Craig's Creek, same. William Crow for retailing liquors at his ferry without license. Edward Gulleher for getting drunk. Hercules Ogle for retailing liquors contrary to law, and suffering unlawful gaming in his house. Geo. Spetts for retailing ____ contrary to law. Dinah Tosh for having a base born child. Philip Love, James Breckenridge, Thomas Goodson, Jr., John Cartmill, Sampson Sawyers, John Deon, James Woods, and John Hawkins (Sinking Creek) recommended to the Governor as fit persons to act as Magistrates. Tobias Craig, David Wright, James Mason and Samuel Crawford ordered to view a way from David James' in Pates Gap to the Great Road leading to this Town. Samuel Eason appointed to take list of tithables, succeeding Josiah Martin, gent. Ordered that the road from Catawba to Vinsandt's be kept in repair by the subscribers only. William Ritchey appointed Surveyor of the Road, succeeding Joseph Kyle. Joseph Reyburne appointed Constable, succeeding Geo. McNeelly, in Capt. Watterson's Company. John Goodson appointed Constable succeeding Johnathan Grymes, Jesper Terry succeeding Christopher Cooper, and William Logan in the bounds of Capt. Goodson's Company of Militia. Joseph Paxton appointed Deputy Sheriff. William Poage appointed Constable, succeeding Johnston Martin.
