License granted Richard Morris to keep an ordinary at his house. William Campbell, Jr. bound to Leonard Ballew. John Robinson appointed overseer of the road in place of Geo. Rutledge. James Wright, Jacob Parsinger, Thomas Carpenter and William Scott ordered to view the way proposed for a road from Hays' Field to Thomas Carpenter's. Joseph Cardon granted leave to include his lands in one survey. The Grand Jury presented the following persons: William Bryan, Michael Montgomery and Jesse Haney for fishing on the Sabbath day. Robert Armstrong, Surveyor of the road for not keeping same in repair. Ordered that summonses issue for persons this day presented by the Grand Jury, returnable next court. Edward Green exempted from payment of Parish and County levies in future for his negro Moll on account of her age and infirmity. Abraham Champ, a slave, given his freedom, it being proven that his mother was one of William Johnston's Mohawk Indians. John Logan, Audley Paul and Samuel Mitchell ordered to allot the hands to work under James McClure and William Campbell, overseers of the road. Ordered that the road from this Town to McIntire's Ford be continued by John Mills' to Geo. Guins, and taken off at the saw mill, and the now fording of James River below John Mills' be opened. Wm. Crow appointed Overseer of the Road. May 10, 1780. Mathew Amocks proved that he was wounded at the Battle of Guilford. Joseph Anderson proved that he was wounded on his way guarding prisoners from York to Winchester. William Crow appointed Surveyor of the Road. May 11, 1786. Leave granted Henry Bowyer to include his lands near the Town of Fincastle in one survey. Sheriff ordered to employ workmen to build pillory stocks and ducking stool. Hugh McNeell fined for breach of office as a Constable. John McNeell placed under bond for good behavior for a year and a day. Wm. Crow and Wm. Allen securities, May 12, 1786. Peter Dierley appointed surveyor of the highway, succeeding James Reaburne. Henry Hazlewood appointed surveyor of the highway, succeeding Henry Coleman.
