James Roberts fined 20 shillings for abusing Thomas Goodson, Gent., in the execution of his office. The Grand Jury presented the following persons: David Robinson for libling James Joseph Hunter, James McMullin and James McCallister. Wm. Watterson, Wm. Bowen, James Bowen, Geo. Reyburne, for beating and abusing James Cunningham. John Crush and John Peck for retailing liquors contrary to law. John Hunt, James Hawkins, James Harvey, Thomas Midteter and James Huld for profane swearing, three oaths each. Surveyor of the road from the Carolina Road leading up the Bent Mountain for not opening and keeping same in repair. Same from the court house to Andersons Perry for not keeping same in repair. Jarred Gladden for living in adultery with Mary Horton. Mary Horton for living in adultery with Jarred Gladden. Joan Lenkey for same as next above with William Neelly's slave. Saml. McFarran for fornication with Rosanna Caldwell. Rosanna Caldwell for fornication with Saml. McFarran. Christopher Clark admitted a citizen of the State of Virginia, and granted license to perform the rites of matrimony. August 15, 1787. Surveyor ordered to make a resurvey of the land of Peter Evans. August 16, 1787. Ordered that Geo. Skillern, Martin McFarran and Saml. Mitchell supervise the election of Overseers of the Poor on the second Tuesday in next month. Philip Love took the oath of Commissioner of the Peace. On motion of Elener Cox, it is ordered that the entry made at last January Court directing that Saml. Galloway should be bound to Owen Neell be set aside. James Breckinridge appointed Ensign in Capt. Cartmill's Company. David Wallace is appointed Ensign in Capt. Cartmill's Company. Andrew Harkness fined for contempt of court. August 17, 1787. Hugh Allen took the oath of Lieut. of the Militia. August 18, 1787. Joseph Paxton (John's son) appointed Ensign in Capt. Paxton's Co. August 20, 1787. Breach of peace charge against Robert Shaddon dismissed. Wm. Crawford fined for not attending to serve as a juryman. Archibald Murray admitted to citizenship of the State. Mathew Harvy took oath as Lieut. of the Militia. Sheriff ordered to summon 3 persons to guard the prison of this County. Ordered that James Breckinridge and Alexander Smyth examine into the condition of the Surveyor's Office. Ordered that Col. Skillern and Thos. Rowland examine into the condition of the Clerk's Office. Ordered that James Bryan proceed to repair the prison.
