August 12, 1788.

   The Grand Jury presents the following:

   John Moss, assaulting Joseph Ruth;

   Rowland Madison, beating William Barnet;

   William Robinson, beating Henry Rayburn;

   Thomas Gillum, John Britt, William Britt and John Taylor for insulting James
Barnett, Gent., while in the discharge of his office quelling a riot the last
Saturday in March last;

   Mary Hedge for having a bastard child;

   Agness Evans for the same;

   William Maxfield and Elizabeth Vansant for living in adultery;

   Mark Dempsey and Molly Terry for the same;

   The Overseers of the Road from Big Lick to Vass' old Fort, not keeping same
in repair;

   Overseers of the road from James Brown's to John Neal's old place, not
keeping the same in repair;

   Same from the lower ferry on James River to the ford, not keeping same in
repair;

   Same from the Allum Rock to the Pounding Mill, not keeping same in repair;

   Same from William Campbell's to Purgatory, not keeping same in repair;

   Same from Capt. Pryor's to Spencor Hainey's, not keeping same in repair;

   George Sawyers for moving the road without legal orders.
