Present: Robert Breckenridge, Israel Christian, James Tremble and David Robinson, Gentlemen. Joseph Walker proved a certificate for 2050 weight of hemp, which is ord. to be certfd. James Campbell the same for 2613 weight of hemp. David Scott the same for nine hundred & seventy two of hemp. John Young the same for seven hundred and ten weight of hemp. James Davis the same for nine hundred weight of hemp. Samuel Wilson the same for one hundred & eight pounds of hemp. James Welch the same for one thousand seven hundred and twenty five pounds of hemp. Arthur McClure the same for one thousand six hundred and eighty pounds of hemp. Robert Erwin the same for one thousand seven hundred & ninety two pounds hemp. William Moore the same for one thousand k ten pounds of hemp. Robert Moore the same for two thousand three hundred & forty pounds of hemp. James Simpson the same for five hundred & forty pounds of hemp. James Gilmore the same for five thousand nine hundred and fifteen pounds of hemp. James Trimble the same for one thousand four hundred and ninety three pounds of hemp. William McKee the same for eight hundred and ninety sewn pounds of hemp. John Wiley the same for one thousand seven hundred and sixty two pounds of hemp. Thomas Kilpatrick the same for one thousand seven hundred & thirty six pounds of hemp. John Kilpatrick the same for one thousand eight hundred and forty eight pounds of hemp. John Howard the same for three hundred and thirty eight pounds of hemp. John Gilmore the same for one thousand four hundred and three pounds of hemp. James Hale the same for one thousand and seven pounds of hemp. James Templeton the same for one thousand four hundred & twenty pounds of hemp. John McClure the same for two thousand two hundred and eighty five pounds of hemp. Thomas Reed the same for one thousand & seven hundred weight of hemp. James McMath the same for nine hundred & thirty eight pounds of hemp. John Taylor the same for two hundred aud seventy four pounds of hemp. John Hanley the same for one thousand and two hundred pounds of hemp. Francis Smith the same for eleven thousand nine hundred and nine pounds of hemp. Thomas Arnett the same for five hundred weight of hemp. A report being made and returned by Amos Potts and Absalom Looley, it is ordered that the same be established agreeable to the said report and that the sd. Absalom and Amos be Surveyors thereof, who with the tithables on the head of Sinking Creek and Stony Run are to open and keep the same in repair Pack Horses. On the motion of Thomas Bowyer, a licence is granted him to keep an ordinary at Botetourt Courthouse, a bond entered into and Thomas Madison, his security, conditioned as the law directs. On the motion of Matthew Amacks, it is ordered that he be exempted in future from the payment of Parish & County levies on account of his age & other distressing circumstances in his family. Agreeable to an order of March Court, a report being made and returned by John Armstrong, Bryant McDonald and James McAfee, it is ordered that the same be established agreeable to the said report, and that the sd. McAfee with all the tithables on Catawba as low as Samuel Philips, do clear the same to where the bridge is to be made, and that John Armstrong with the eight tithables named on the back of the report do clear the way from where the bridge is to be built to the first fording of Catawba, and that the said overseers if they find that a bridge may be made do build the same accordingly. Ord. that Alexander Hanley be apptd. Surveyor of the Road from John Hanley's Mill to Gilmore's Gap. Ord. that Matthew Scott be apptd. Constable on Little River. Whereupon the plaintiff was solemnly called but came not, therefore it is considered by the court that he be non-suited and that he pay unto the defendant five shillings damages & his costs by him about his defence in this behalf expended &c.
